Sea Sick (Ravaged World Trilogy)

Interesting concept but fell flat in execution
It's Groundhog Day meets 28 Days Later - on a cruise ship. I really liked the concept and the unfolding of the mystery of what was happening and why. I also liked the fact that things got started pretty quickly. But I really had trouble believing that Jack was a good cop at all since he seemed to not really be able to figure anything out forever and trusted the wrong people often taking them at face value which made no sense to me.I had several problems with the book and why I only gave it three stars was I didn't feel any connection to the characters. I just I didn't even have a sense of what Jack even looked like except that he was "an older guy." I was kind of rooting for him but I really didn't care what happened to him. Donavan seemed like he could have been a more interesting character but then just seemed like a stereotype of what an American would be - a gun-toting cowboy with an accent. My second big problem was the ending. I kind of saw where the ending was going and how it had to end but with some of the explanation of the "bigger picture" (can't say more without giving it away), it just seemed pointless and was a letdown. The grammatical and other errors were also distracting; however, the mystery kept me interested.SPOILERS HEREReally huge plot hole here: Donavan is supposed to be like Jack, free from the spell because it didn't reach the cargo hold where he was staying. So, like Jack, he dies and comes back. But if that's true, then how come when Donavan is killed by someone else in the cargo hold, he stays dead? He should've come back the next day like he has before. Now, one could argue that because Donavan was killed in the cargo hold, he stayed dead because the spell didn't extend to the hold. But then if THAT is the reason, Jack should have stayed dead when Donavan killed him earlier in the cargo hold. But Jack came back as before. HUGE plot hole that couldn't be reconciled.I probably could've let that go if the ending wasn't so futile. Blow up the ship but doesn't matter because virus is being spread elsewhere.

Gloom, doom, and violence...
Like other readers stated, I got through it after almost giving it up at 40%. *Spoiler* Never being a fan of Groundhog Day, I personally didn't care for it going there, although it was a unique take on a zombie tale. Too much nothing and violence went on for months. At the end, there were still too many unanswered questions and too many holes left in the story. I did get the end and figured it was the best way for the author to take the story. It had been all gloom and doom anyway. There was another thing that bothered me in the writing. The author's personal views on the law and some politics came through in a disturbing way. To choose vigilante violence over the law is NOT okay under any circumstances.

To start, I’m not a critic. I love reading, especially horror and psychological thrillers. I usually don’t write reviews. I’m only leaving a comment because the world needs to know how talented this dude is. Iain Rob Wright owns this genre. At first I was skeptical. For years I was obsessed with King, Koontz, Rice, James Patterson , Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. So when I saw he was offering 5 free books, I didn’t think much. I was wrong. I am so hooked to Wright’s stories. Sea Sick was one of the best Zombie/Apocalypse books I’ve ever read. So unique, disturbing and exciting at once. I love the mix of horror and fantasy he adds. I also love how he adds remnants of his other stories, even though it’s not a series. so when reading, you understand that what’s currently happening is in the same universe of his other stories. And if your tired of a nice happy ending, then your in luck, because Wright is a twisted individual. I honestly think if you start reading this, you will be pleasantly surprised. Mr.Wright, please continue writing. I’m really looking forward to it. Thank you for your sick and twisted mind!

Edge of your seat suspense
I have to admit that Mr. Lain Rob Wright's book, Seasick: A Zombie Horror Novel, pulled me in from the very start and had me totally engrossed in the story until I thought there was a major error because pages of text from earlier were repeated ver Badin. After skimming ahead, I discovered that each day was getting reset at midnight and the main character, Police Officer Jack Wardsley, was getting another opportunity to relive the day before - aka the movie, "Groundhog Day".As the plot continued to roll out, readers learn that Jack must find a way to prevent the zombie pandemic from reaching the mainland and only he can make changes during his daily reruns. Everybody else has no memory of the preceding day and relive the day as if it were a new day. However, every day ends the same, people turn into zombies just after 8:00 pm and ravage the ship until midnight, killing everyone in sight..This is the first zombie mystery that I've read. What triggered the pandemic? Was it an act of God? Why? How does Jack stop it? During his quest to solve the problem, Jack discovers three other passengers on board who are not impacted by the daily reset. Why? Can they help? Does he succeed? All wonderful questions that will be answered throughout the rest of the book. Highly recommended!John Podlaski, author"Cherries - A Vietnam War Novel" and "When Can I Stop Running?"
