It's a great sub only con is I thought it would be louder for the wattage and price range it is at. Don't want to lie I'm sure it's a possibility if there was a way to figure out how to maneuver the app. It's very difficult app it should have more explanation on how to use. Also a better manual would help a lot.

Powerful Enough for smaller venues or outdoor events.
My guys are JBL fans--My son, who is a performing musician offers this: The JBL PRX815XLFW is a beast. Fortunately just not in ways I would normally associate with a subwoofer. I initially had some concern about the usual cumbersome nature of a powered 15" enclosure. To my surprise, bringing the box in from the front porch was a simple one man job. Opening the box revealed a completely manageable (size-wise) cabinet with strong, well-place handles. Moving it around felt more akin to a combo bass amp (like the Ampeg BA-115) than a PA speaker. The back panel layout is very clear & clean. This is mostly due to things like equalizers, mutes, and DSP being contained within the app. Having the option of XLR or 1/4" is a necessity for me these days, so that was a welcome sight. As others have expressed, the PRX Connect App isn't functional with a broad enough amount of devices. It'd be great to have it on my Windows phone and my Fire tablet. Hoping JBL finds a way to get the app on more devices, but for now, the gain control on the back works for me. The quality of sound is exactly what I've come to expect from JBL over the years. Clear, punchy, and defined. A single 15" sub would likely not be powerful enough for a full rock show or medium to large dance club, but is certainly enough for smaller venues or outdoor events. In fact, I would think this subwoofer could have a practical application in a band setting for use with synthesizers, sample pads, or even stringed bass instruments.

Clean sound, capable amp, okay app, super quality build
Listen to these before you buy them. I would not say this subwoofer is a monster. You can definitely feel the bass from a distance and you can elicit some wicked low frequency structural vibrations. But in the spectrum between stupid loud and clear sound, I find this subwoofer tends to clarity. I tortured the unit with hundreds of different bass busting sounds at high gain and the 1500 watt amp handled it easily. The WiFi connection and iOS/Android app control is okay. The app needs a bit of help to make it easier to use with less kludgy ways of inputing levels. As a traveling system, you're going to have to take your own WiFi router to make it all work. It was easy to set up and the system has consistently connected with, so it is robust in that sense. Given the life span of apps and connected equipment, I really would think twice about opting for this particular flavor. I realize it provides a lot of flexibility in terms of tailoring each specific speaker's output (an eq for every speaker), but is it going to be as robust five years from now? Will JBL/Harmon continue to support the app with as much enthusiasm (especially when the app currently feels underwhelming)? Part of me just wants to keep everything simple. The build quality of the speaker is fantastic. They are great looking and super tough. The case is wood with a protective coating. The handles are on both sides and feel great. This particular unit is plenty heavy at about 60 pounds. The pole mount on the top uses the M20 thread. This is a newer standard meant to reduce wobble, but you will have to pay attention because older 1 3/8" poles will not work. If you play in small to medium size venues and you really like to sculpt the sound of each speaker, I would recommend this system.

Great sound but app does not connect with iPhone
My brother has been using this subwoofer in his Americana band. Instantly I could hear the difference this speaker makes. It adds a deep richness to their sound without sounding thumpy or washed out. The deep, rich tones are crisp and clear. It's made a big difference. This is built like a tank. It's heavy and takes two older guys to move. He uses a cart. It has to be built heavy because it need to hold up to bumping around and I think it would easily survive an accidental drop. The biggest drawback is that he needs to borrow an iPad to get the PRX CONNECT app to work with the speaker and then it needs a dedicated router. That is very irritating It really does need to work with and iPhone. Not sure why this is the case. So he makes is adjustments through the soundboard. The app and connectivity is useless. In this climate, instant iPhone connectivity is a must and is a huge missed opportunity.

Smaller but powerful for a dj
My boyfriend uses this for his part time hobby dj-ing. I'm glad he was at home when it arrived, because it was too heavy for me to lift or move around, and the ups man left it in the middle of the driveway. Guess he couldn't carry out any further. My boyfriend said it works perfect in the types of bars he djs in. He usually does bar parties and sometimes does weddings. He hasn't used it in a large reception seeing yet and isn't sure it will be loud enough for the very large locations. He said it is easy to control with his tablet he uses for his other work. He's quite happy with it. It takes up less space in our spare room (his equipment room) than his old one.

great sound, not so great hook up options
Pros: Great sound and easy setup. Cons: Only has XLR ports; would be nice to have a quarter inch cable input. Will be using this to DJ at an upcoming wedding thanks to the high quality sound.
