I thought I liked this...
UPDATE-------------I received this shoulder rest at the same time as a new set of strings and had been playing for about an hour to break them in before it got too late in the evening. I'd say about 30 minutes after I was done I noticed I had a really bad rash all up the left side of my neck and was breaking out with pimples going in a straight line exactly where my skin came in touch with the shoulder rest. I tried contacting the seller and posting a question on the page about anyone having an issue with allergic reactions or skin irritation and it was promptly deleted. I'm chasing my review from a 4 star to a 2 star. It's a nice product but if you have sensitive skin you should probably be carefu using it. the produc is a combination of suede and 'pleather' (plastic leather) and what ever they used to dye the product could cause people to breakout. Something like this I'm a little upset they aren't addressing.ORIGINAL------------I was looking for a period appropriate shoulder rest. I often play at historic reenactments and Renaissance faires and the use of a plastic shoulder rest is kind of frowned upon. I love the material of this, the suede looks nice and the artificial leather should hold up a little better in the elements. the pad is a little thick for me, so I need to figure out how to squish it down so the violin fits under my chin. My violin is also an antique and the tips of the bouts have worn away so getting the rubber bands to fit is a little tricky without having them snap back but this shouldn't be an issue for a modern violin.

Great chin rest cover if you're allergic to metal on chin rest; shoulder pad did not work for me
I bought this mainly to cover up the metal on my chin rest since I have a bad allergic reaction to it and didn't actually want to tinker with it to replace the chin rest, This fit over my chin rest perfectly and covers the metal but I found that the pad at the back that is supposed to act as the shoulder rest is too insubstantial (not thick, high or long enough) to help support the instrument. I found therefore that I could not play my violin with it. The great part is that the pad was easily removable as it is only held together to the cover part with velcro) so I could use the chin rest comfortably with my old shoulder rest (a Kun Bravo) and hey presto! my problem was solved. Highly recommended for the chin rest cover; looks great too. I am very pleased with it, and would order it again, but deducted a star since for me, at least, part of the product was not functional, though it may work for others.

An Unexpected Delight for a Violin Rest
I originally purchased this rest under the assumption that it was a "one source" solution for both the chin rest and the shoulder rest. It does provide a shoulder rest, but only acts as a cover for an existing chin rest. A close examination of the photos in the ad indeed show the fasteners for the underlying (not part of purchase) chin rest. That point being clarified, it is nicely made, fits in my case on the violin (an unexpected bonus), and should last a very long time. It also works very well on my cecilio electric violin, and I have been unable to use other types of shoulder rest on that instrument. It also affords some protection to the lower surfaces of the instrument and is easy to use, which may be of benefit to younger musicial students. I would think that the addition of 1/4 and 1/2 violin sized rests should sell well.

Perfect!
I tried a few different brands listed on amazon but not as comfortable as this one. This one just fits perfectly to the violin. The rubber bands stretch to fit and the pad is really soft on the shoulder. It doesn’t scratch my skin at all and it gives me a sturdy hold on. I do like that I can fit in in my case b/c it folds in. Price is fair too considering it’s hand made and it looks just great on the violin! In general it takes some time to adjust should rests so that it is comfortable and holds your violin still on your shoulder. I feel like I can keep it on without readjusting. Highly recommended!

Soft but slippery
It’s a lovely idea and was as soft as promised but it kept falling off the violin and also a bit slippery for the shoulder. My 6yo couldn’t hold the violin with his chin so we had to go back to the cheap hard one within 2 lessons. The violin teacher said a good old foam sponge better than this unfortunately.

This so much more comfortable for me with my fused neck than any other ...
This so much more comfortable for me with my fused neck than any other chin & shoulder rest. Rubber bands work fine. Not sure how to replace them if need be yet, but I'll cross that bridge if I have to. I'd highly recommend it to those looking for comfort.

but this one looked different and much more comfortable than others so I had to check it out
I just started learning the violin and tried the cheaper foam rests, but this one looked different and much more comfortable than others so I had to check it out. Once I got it I noticed the leather to be very sturdy but super soft. Placed it on the chin rest and attached the bands pretty easily.I have to say it looks amazing and has the perfect feel on the cushion. Helped me alot and I can't see myself playing without it. Love it very much and worth the cost!!Highly recommended !

Very nice, but it needs some height (just an fyi to buyers)
The rest looks very nice on the violin and is pretty comfortable, but I must admit it becomes a bit difficult to get a proper hold on the violin- meaning, the position you slouch into isn't exactly ideal. It's like a half-way improvement from playing without a shoulder rest to playing with one, if that makes sense. I would add a small sponge under the rest to give it more height. Not really complaining because the product itself is nice, it just needs some height to it.
