Excellent live set, killer guitar collection!!
I loved Be Bop Deluxe, but I couldn't get into Red Noise and didn't listen much after that. I just happened to see some U-Tube videos from this concert DVD and was astonished at how good they were. I'm not that familiar with his solo material, but all the material in this collection is highly listenable and recorded in a very intimate atmosphere. It's like a band playing for a few friends at the local pub. The video/audio quality is superb. The playing is top notch and Bill Nelson is probably a better guitarist than in his Be Bop Deluxe days, which is really saying something. This is the guy who influenced guitarists like Randy Rhoads and Stuart Adamson. Easily the best cd / DVD I've purchased since Clockwork Angels by Rush. And if you're a guitarist, you'll love his guitar collection, which seems like a different guitar for each song. The collection consists of a Live DVD, with a bonus interview, the same concert on a cd, and a bonus cd with 4 instrumental tracks. If you're a Be Bop Deluxe / Bill Nelson fan, this album is a must-have.

A great and rare live set from a supreme guitarist and composer
Great sound mixes and sharp performances from a truly amazing musician whose guitar "heroics" were once mixed with elements of glam-rock and New Romantic. Better than anything trendy, Nelson's soaring guitar and emotionally resonant, if a little understated, vocals sit with a perfect live band backing, that allows for the textures of the original studio recordings to be presented onstage, and with some fine new interpretation. This set is a fantastic deal for the price. The DVD works fine in my rather old (2003) DVD player, here in North America. Bill's guitar work is amazing throughout, his sense of melody intact, as it should be, as he's released 40+ albums of original material since the Be Bop Deluxe days. The set list is well-chosen, some of these tunes were "road-tested" in 2004 or thereabouts, so Bill seems more comfortable than he might actually have been, and the Gentlemen Rocketeers do a proud job, solid and sympathetic. I appreciated the interview segments in the DVD extras, as it answered questions I would have asked him myself. TOUR, BILL, TOUR!

Great Adventures with Bill
As a huge Be Bop fan isolated from the great Bill Nelson here in Australia, this DVD was like a gift from the Gods!!! - Its worth the money for the Be Bop songs alone - All sounded better than when I last managed to see me hero's in 1977!!! . Just how good is Bill Nelson on guitar - so underatted its criminal. I must admit - I actually enjoyed the Bill Nelson solo songs too - again they sounded better live. Good quality DVD and "Adventures in a Yorkshire landscape" is one of the all time great songs - If you like Be Bop - Buy it!

Glad I had't died yet
This album is one I've always wanted, but felt as if I'd never see it in my lifetime. I like Bill when he's live, and while I've bought some of his works in the 80's, 90's, etc. I'm still a die-hard Be-Bop Deluxe fan. Audio quality is very good, and I'm still listening to it. It truly has been a short period of surprises (last years Neil Young & Crazy Horse "Pyschedelic Pill" and this great work from Bill Nelson really made 2012 stand out). My only regret is that there wasn't more of Bill's earlier stuff to listen to, but I shouldn't complain when he goes back to Futurama and other early albums to pull out some gems. You're probably not reading this Bill, but thanks for making me happy!

Bill Nelson Shines!
If you are a Bebop Deluxe fan or a fan of great guitar playing and guitar tone, this is the DVD for you.The band, the sound and the performance is top shelf. Bill Nelson's guitar tone is god-like!After watching this you will wonder why this man isn't in the pantheon of great musicians. His career deserved so much more recognition.

If you had forgotten Bill Nelson, buy this
Bill Nelson and Bebop Deluxe were the first band I HAD to get into, a friend lent me "Futurama and I was hooked, I had to buy everything the guy had done, his lyrics are oure poetry and his songs are not just "sex and drugs and rock n' roll", they are about things that matter, childhood memories, influences, landscape, art, love and death etc..., and of course there is the wonderful guitar playing. I stuck with Bill through his non-guitar period, Red Noise, solo albums up to Chimera then sort of lost track as Bill seemed to go MIA. A few years back I found his fan base website and managed to catch up with him again, have met the guy a couple of times and now possess a proudly autographed copy of Northern Dreamer. But where does this lead to on this CD and DVD? Well, come on £10 and you get two CD's and a DVD of the show? Value for money or what? I have seen Bill and The Gentlemen Rocketeers play most of these tracks and it is brilliant to see them on DVD and hear them on CD, excellent versions of October Man, Furniture Music, Do You Dream In Colour? and of course Maid In Heaven and Sister Seagull. It is a brilliant cross section of Bill's career played with some outstanding musicians. The DVD shows the auditorium was very crampled, Bill and the band have to wade through te audience to get to the stage and the front row are almost on his lap, I can understand why Bill was a little disappointed by it , but hey, the end result is a brilliant concert. I recognise a few faces from the fan club in the audience, the fact they know Bill adds to the banter between Bill and audience.CD two gives anyone who has not revisited Bill of late a taste of what he is doing now, with solo compostions for Stuart Adamson of Big Country and Bill's brother Ian who sadly passed away two years ago.My only disappointments are on CD 1 there is no representation of more band oriented music Bill is producing today, when I saw him live he played "Mysterious Objects Overhead" from his 2010 album "Fancy Planets", it would have been good to hear that again. Anyone wanting to update should check out Bill's fan club "Dreamsville", he has produced some wonderful songs lately, "Lampdownlowland" from the album Fantasmatron and "Arco Volta" from the album Joy Through Amplification are as good as anything from the Bebop years, and you learn about the convention he holds every year at which he will meet and greet everyone, damn fine chap he is too.I just have a long list of music I would still love to hear him play, Acceleration, Love In Flames, Gold At The End of My Rainbow, Bloo Blooz just to name a few, but I can live with this live set, at least it has my absolute favourite Bill track on it (and one of his) Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape.

FANTASTISCH!

endlich

The full Monty
At last, a new live album by the elusive Mr Bill Nelson and what a gem it is too. This package has the full show on both audio cd and DVD, which is a better way to bring the show to those of us who could not make it. I had read about how Bill was less than happy with the situation, the lack of rehearsal time, the haste with which the project was put together, the less than satisfactory conditions during the show etc........but none of this is even remotely apparent. This is a superb collection of career spanning tunes delivered by a first class team of musicians. This set has 2 audio cds, the first being the song based material going right across his career, and then a second one featuring 4 instrumental tracks featuring some jawdropping guitar work, as good as any I have heard from Bill to date. The band put together for this gig is top notch and links this music to that of Robert Fripp and Gong via the presence of Theo Travis, a man who makes a distinctive and uplifting contribution to the proceedings, his solos being of a standard similar to that of Bill himself. They tackle older songs and really get the best out of them as if they had been playing together for years. I was going to name a few tracks that really stand out, but could not pick any as the album is really a collection of highlghts, not a duff track anywhere here. All killer, no filler. The sound of the live show on the 2 cds is nothing less than first class. It sounds like a live show and everything is really well mixed so that every performer can clearly be heard. In my opinion every live dvd ought to come with the same show on cd so that it can be listened to elsewhere away from the telly. The tapes have been remixed from the multitrack recordings by Bill Nelson and John Spence, so you know it is going to be good. The DVD is the same as the recently deleted DVD, so in essence this is the winning package between this and the first issue. The last time I saw Bill Nelson on the telly was way back when the mighty Red Noise were on The Old Grey Whistle Test. So this is another really good show, great to see Bill out there delivering the goods, and it all serves to remind me that I missed a killer gig :-(At £10 this is a no brainer for anyone who has even a passing interest in Bill Nelson across his Be Bop Deluxe/Red Noise/solo output.
