Essential Cell Biology

Simple and clear enough for me
THIS is my final book on Cell Biology. I'm retired, and still intellectually curious, so several years ago I bought Molecular Cell Biology by Harvey Lodish, et al. I got almost half-way through it before I discovered a newer and even more complete text, Microbiology of the Cell by Bruce Alberts, et al, and bought it. I got several chapters into it until age and decreased energy made it harder to get through. I should admit that I would never have been able to get through that entire book and remember most of it, as a microbiologist would have to do (I majored in engineering). So I looked for a simpler book on the same subject and found Essential Cell Biology by Bruce Alberts, et al (a very different one from the book by Alberts mentioned above). I got the 4th edition of it (cheaper but published in 2004), and enjoyed it. I got as far as how chloroplasts in plants generate energy, and decided I needed a more updated book, so I bought this book. Of course it's better than the 4th edition (19 years newer). I can understand all of it and feel like I've learned everything I wanted to, because it is written for someone like me (it's not simplistic like Biology for Dummies).
