As good as you were expecting it to be (i.e. very good)
Like everyone else I’ve been a fan of Joel Golby’s writing for a while, and I was excited to read his book. A confession: for me, it wasn’t cover-to-cover perfect; I lost interest in a few of the chapters. But when he’s good… damn, he’s good. His writing is so funny, obviously, and so silly, but it’s just so beautiful too. There are parts that are so well-written that when I finished the paragraph I just needed to read it again: words so beautifully put together, so rhythmic, that you want to read it over and over, just to hear it again. But it’s not just the writing that makes this book special, it’s the content. Joel Golby just gets it. He captures thoughts and feelings that you’ve already had, a thousand times over, but you’d never put into words. If you are roughly between the ages of 25-35, this book is going to speak to you. He gets it.So no, this book isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty damn close. I wish there were other writers like this, I really do, because I would devour everything they write. But there just aren’t: Joel’s writing at its peak is truly better than anything else out there right now. Buy this book.

An absolute BORE BORE BORE!
The book is a complete waste of time.Who wants to read this trash? I was fooled by the good reviews and so disappointed, I literally can't believe it was published and received great reviews!

An extraordinary achievement - who'd have thought such drivel would ever be published.
Puerile humour that would embarrass a schoolboy. Like others I was fooled by the reviews and gave it every chance by sticking with it knowing that, like the final whistle of a drubbing, the last page would bring some kind of relief. Dear God how did this rubbish ever get published?

The funniest writer misses his mark
Joel Golby's columns in Vice are exceptional but when he finishes his 5th book he'll look back at this one and do a wonky mouth emoji face. It's just not that good.

I liked it
Joe Golby is an interesting guy, a northerner that's ended up in London chasing "the dream". Along the way he's written a series of short stories and essays about his life and experiences and they are incredibly entertaining. While reading this book I've laughed, I've cried and I've been angry, sometimes these emotions were directed at the book too.
