But, does it do anything?
On the plus side: unit arrived quickly, was well boxed, had good mounting instructions and it was a snap to install. On the down side: unit arrived with a plug that does not fit US outlets. I had to request a replacement adapter from the company that arrived promptly. Given the dearth of information about these electronic descalers, I have asked a family member who is a nuclear scientist, as well as a gentleman professor who ran a chemical lab in Boston whether they believed this sort of gizmo could work. Both scientist types were skeptical, at best. I then wrote to the manufacturer asking for independent lab results, peer reviews, or reference to published literature about this technology. While I did receive a prompt response, it was a convoluted, run on sentence, with lots of terminology, but it smelled of scientific mumbo jumbo. When asked how their unit was better than others on the market, I got a song and dance about how trade secret prevented head to head comparisons. So, I have it installed and running. No problem there. But I am hard pressed to know whether it is helping my hard water/calcium and magnesium problem - or whether I am just being lulled into belief by the nice flashing lights. First few day response is that my water tastes the same. It continues to spot on my shower glass doors. Maybe I should adopt the Christmas mantra "If you believe...."

Easy to install, seems well made
After 3 months of having this, I am updating this review to remove a star. I learned the hard way that this descaler has no type of power memory. You plug it in, turn it on and then forget about it while it does its job. But then if your power goes out, this does NOT turn back on when the power is restored. It is easy to forget that this needs to be done, and hopefully you will be able to install it somewhere that is easy to access and power back up as needed.Original review below:We have very hard water and get a lot of mineral deposits in our plumbing. Especially in the water heater. I did some research and thought this would be a better option for us than a water softener that adds salt to the water. This descaler seems to be well made and has clear instructions. It was quite easy for my husband to install, and now we have it doing its job. Only time will tell just how effective it turns out to be, but it seems very good so far.

Less Maintenance Than A Salt Based Softener
I have had an electronic water softener for over 10 years and they work great. This one is even lower cost and they are becoming more affordable as the technology advances. They are pretty easy to install if you have access to an area of your incoming water line to your home. It is best to place it as far upstream in your lines so to gain the most benefit from it. It will help to descale your water heater and all the plumbing fixtures downstream of it. Your first month may be spent removing and cleaning out the aerators on your faucets as larger chunks and pieces of scale come out of your lines and hot water tank if it is older. You might notice reduced flow at some fixtures and this is usually a sign of a clogged aerator. It uses very little energy and runs 24/7. It won't make your water feel as soft as a salt based softener, but it will reduce or eliminate lime scale buildup on your fixtures, tubs, showers and appliances. I have found that it can in some instances cause the limescale to buildup on plumbing waste lines especially at toilets. If you have slower flushing toilets that won't resolve itself easily from typical plunging or snaking, then you may need to remove the toilet and check the drain lines. This may takes years to develop to where it is noticeable, but it is a possibility. If you have limescale issues with your water, then this is a great way to reduce or eliminate it. 5 stars.

Noticed increase water pressure after the first month
The user manual is very simple to follow, there are several different ways to configure it, and one of them matched mine exactly, after putting together if you tie straps got everything where I wanted, it turned on and let it go to work. I know these things take time. This is 150 year House that had the plumbing updated on the early 70’s and was not sure what we could expect. A couple weeks in, we started to notice a little hard chunks, coming out of our water supply, that only lasted for a few days, and was not entirely sure that it was because of this product. However, what we have noticed is that our low water pressure has significantly increased and have to assume this product is the source. We have also noticed that our city water, which seems to have a high iron content is much lower now, the chlorine smell is still the same and with this product you don’t expect to change with that.Looking forward over the next few months to see if there’s any other noticeable events.Again, set up is extremely easy, the directions were very clear, it is tucked away in an area that I cannot get a good picture of. There is a slight humming coming from the box which might be expected. So far we are seeing some results that we hope related to this product and will continue to use!Update: moved to a new location and added a video
