Autism : Have We Done Everything We Can for This Child?: Effective Biomedical Treatments
C**.
Great reference especially if you are doing biomedical treatments!
I have a child with autism and have been implementing biomedical treatments for almost 2 years and he has recovered from most of his autistic symptoms. His symptoms were lack of eye contact, head banging, sensory issues, limited and delayed speech, tantrums, repetitive behavior, aggressiveness, impulsivity, attention deficit, constipation, big bulging belly, rashes, ezcema, high fevers, frequent illness, and a "disconnect" from the outside world. Today he is in the mainstream classroom, is very healthy, and people can't tell he has autism.Reading through the book may be challenging in the beginning since it's quite technical, but it is a GREAT reference to look up the vitamins and supplements that are typically needed for ASD kids. This book tells you what each supplement does, as well as its dosage, timing, and side effects. Over time as you educate yourself further, reading the entire book gets easier and makes more sense, but the supplements part is still great even for beginners. It also explains the stages of biomedical treatment, which begins from cleaning the gut and the basic supplements. I highly recommend this book!

The Biomed Bible for Autism
Great work, very helpful. Highly technical in parts, but the explanations are understandable. Many diagrams, charts, lists. Comprehensive index & reference list. The book begins with an explanation of the multitude of individual factors that can complicate health & developmental progress in individuals with autism. It gives details about skin & gut problems, special diets, yeast issues/antifungals, allergens, detoxification, metabolic disorders, and lab tests. The last 1/3 of the book discusses about 36 different supplements for autism: specific vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, probiotics, amino acids, and others. While this book is not inexpensive, it is worth its weight in gold. Pangborn & Baker helped me make dietary and supp changes that were very helpful to my child.

One of the first books I recommend to people.
I was introduced to Mr. Pangborn since 2009 when I was given his name from a mom in the therapy waiting room. These were the days where I had to go to the library to use a computer. I found the book on eBay and ordered it. I still have my original book with tabs and a very worn cover. I have mixed emotions when I look at it. Sadness of how sick my child was, but joy because that mom and I crossed paths that day.My child had severe PICA. I mean....severe. I was told repeatedly that was "normal" behavior in autism. It absolutely was not normal and I knew it in my mom gut. This is the book that started our journey of healing. I got my boy into a functional medicine doctor within a month of reading this and that doctor was the first medical professional to order labs. My son was anemic, had elevated lead levels, and a whole host of other issues uncovered. Within a month of working with the functional medicine doctor, my son's PICA dissapeared. Just Poof! It was gone. And it's never returned. (he's 17 now)I'm still mad at the medical doctors that told me checking labs were a waste of time and resources. How long did my child suffer because of their incompetence? They were quick to offer me pharmaceuticals at doses for a full grown man for my 2 year old.In working with the FM doctor through diet and labs, my son continued to get better. His red ears dissapered, he stopped getting sick, he started sleeping through the night (and still does) and he smiled for the first time. He was happy. He was happy because he wasn't in pain. This is the book that set me on a path to never accept "that's just part of autism" and to make sure my child didn't have something else going on. It gave our son his life back.As I told the pediatrician who was literally speechless when he saw my son after 3 months, "have we done everything we can for this child? No, you haven't." I did purchase him a brand new book and I can only hope that he did basic labs on every single child that came through his exam room with PICA.I've learned so much over the years about GI health and often wonder had we started diet intervention as soon as he was prescribed his very first antibiotic before a year old for an ear infection. Perhaps if we would have questioned the need for medication for GERD as an infant. What if I knew then what I know now about buying a house to raise my children in next to an air force base. I have a lot of what if scenarios that keep me up some nights. But as I referenced this book again in the last year as my son needed antibiotics, I'm reminded of the knowledge I've gained and the confidence I have all because of this book that opened a new door.

Step Outside the Box
I used this book and worked with a doctor to get to tier 2 of the pricipals. This is a great book ( "The Bible of the rocks to look under for clues" ) that helped my daughter move much closer to recovery than would have been possible. We now work with a great DAN! doctor Dr. Lynne who is very informed in this area. Rachael has gone from non verbal to speaking with a 100 word vocabulary / a small sentence is now here... Thanks ! to the Douglas College program, the the tools ( knowledge and certifications ) the girls bring and professionalism. Meeting Dr. Barbi from the Autism Center in the begining was fabulous who also works with us and has been a big part of the recovery process. We have been very lucky moving forward so far it seems like a miracle is taking place.."Sometimes God's Angels are busy and he uses regular people" !!, Story from a friend.

The Daddy of All Biomedical Intervention Books
This book, along with Kenneth Bock's, "Healing the 4A's" is an absolute MUST for anyone beginning their biomedical journey with a child or other loved one. Practically all the information you need is there along with some real pearls. I baulked at the price and put off buying it for ages, when I got it I thought, if only I'd bought this one first.Warning. There are some technical areas which need looking at. However, the majority of the book is well readable, quite fascinating, and also can be used to look up terms and interventions.I re-iterate - its an absolute must in terms of time-saving and getting you up to speed quickly.Good luck to you if you are beginning this type of intervention, wish you well.
