Hi there and thanks so much for your question! Hugimals were designed for adults as well as kids and you can see from our reviews that many customers are very happy with their 4.5 pounds of evenly distributed weight!

Q: Do people add more weight? I'm concerned if loose pellets are added & zipper opens, they would be harmful to little kids or pets.

If people choose to add more weight they most certainly can. However the weight would not just be tossed in there loose. It would be contained within a nylon or similar. As to the weight Hugimal comes with, it is safely secured in the inner shell of the body. Hugimal is completely safe for kids.
