The Paleo Diet for Athletes: The Ancient Nutritional Formula for Peak Athletic Performance

Plenty of information for amateur and advanced athletes; some myths debunked; bibliography and index
This is a very detailed review with bibliography supporting evidence. This is well written for the layman, and the book is not written like a techinical journal. I have run and lifted weights for over thirty years as an amateur athlete. This book has given me new inisight into aspects of my diet that are worth experimenting with. I remember first becoming familiar with the 'Paleo' theory in 1989 - reading Paleolithic Prescription. That was a great book, and the Paleo Diet offers more updated evidence of the logic behind such a diet. The infrequent athlete will find new ideas for experimenting with a diet to aid weight loss. The amateurs will take the ideas on diet and add the insight in pre-race meals and post recovery. Some myths are debunked which I had not heard before (in 30 years of reading). He backs up his statements with sources. He is extremely experienced in the field of endurance, so the advanced athlete will find numerous ideas to work with that I have not read in other literature.

A must for endurance runners.
Addresses the questions about food that every endurance runner has: what to eat when, both during the race as well as during training.A must and helpful read.

Not what I expected
I expected this book to have a specific plan and process and instead I found it to be too conceptual. As a reference book, it is excellent, the authors have backed their research up with nearly 50 pages of references. The section of the book called "Putting It Into Practice" is only about 80 pages long, and in a 272 page book (336 with the appendix) that isn't what I hoped for.Bottom line, if you're an athlete looking for an extremely well researched reference volume about training properly while eating a paleo diet, this is your book, if you're looking for something more along the lines of a traditional diet book, look at another paleo option. I gave it 4 stars rather than 3 because it is a good book, even if it isn't what I thought it was going to be.

Read this book to dispel any negative beliefs about Peleo
A difficult book to read, but well worth the effort. If you are familiar with the writings of Joe Friel, you know how in-depth his books are, this is no exception. I caught myself wanting to skip ahead to the stuff that either interested me or I thought would be the main points. WRONG! From beginning to end, each page and subject of each chapter is a stepping stone to the next topic. I caught myself taking notes, underlining and highlighting, I thought I was back in school. I could go on and on. This book should be in the library of every athlete who wants to incorporate nutrition into their pre, during, and post workouts. I look forward to every book penned by Joe.

參考價值高但有點難不太容易懂,適合很有興趣的人再看
The focus of this book is to provide proper dietary advice before, during, and after riding, and it is more carefully subdivided into different types of riding for hours or even days. It is a very good reference book, but the way of writing is very difficult Only enthusiasts or experts in the field of nutrition can understand it better. For amateur sports enthusiasts like me, just focus on the proper diet advice before riding, at the moment of riding, and after riding in the book. The citations in this book all contain descriptions of related literature, so it can be said that it is a book with a high degree of credibility.

Fantastic trove of actionable information
This book is packed with the theory behind the method, but also gets into specific details and examples of how to apply the method. More than just nutrition and how to fuel an athlete's body, you learn about how the body processes and uses what we feed it, and then the methods for exercise to train the body to exceed limitations you may have encountered in your training.I started reading it on Kindle, but wanted to have the book to highlight and mark up. I then bought a copy for my son, with whom I plan to do an ultramarathon in the next year. Excellent book.DAB

interesting read with lots of good information
I found this book enlightening. I have run marathons and ridden century bike rides for years as well as completed an ironman triathlon yet I never seemed to lose weight and still had high blood pressure and was always hungry for high carb snacks. I am going to try this approach for the next few months as it makes a lot if sense and explains some if why I may have the cravings I do. I have a chemistry background so the technical details are very good and explain a lot to me. It was well written and I am looking forward to seeing how well this works.

Great for competitive endurance athletes
I thought the book was great if you are an endurance athlete, especially, for those who compete in marathons, ride centuries, and so on. If you are like me, I enjoy staying fit with the elliptical machine, lifting weights, and doing Power and/or Vinyasa yoga with various other athletic activities included to keep me in shape. I'm not looking to compete, so this book wasn't completely geared toward my needs. However, it is a great book for those who are serious competitors.I did get some information from the book that was very helpful, but otherwise it went beyond my needs.

Informative, evidence-based and well-written
I really do love this book! Plenty of science in there, all referenced if you want to study in further detail. Plenty of tips from a top athlete, too. The book tackles all the fundaments of a generally good diet as well as eating for recovery. The proof is definitely in the eating, though. I was cynical about the Paleo diet, but I feel so much healthier now. I've not noticed a significant change in athletic performance, but it's still early days. The most noticeable thing is a complete absence of any digestive discomfort. Although I didn't notice the discomfort much before, the sudden and total absence of any bloating or pain has made me realise just how much discomfort I had learned to live with. I also feel more alert and never feel any kind of lethargy after a meal. Having thought Paleo was a fad, I'm now a total convert. I do wish we'd managed to adapt properly to alcohol as a food source, though... it's the one thing I really miss!
