what is the length of this product from the first light to the last light?

It's a 35 ft string and there are only approx 2 ft on one end without lights, so I would say approx 33ft. Mine are already on the tree so I can't measure them as they are now.

D0 the bulbs get hot enough to possibly catch curtains on fire

No , as they are LED’s they do not get hot

Is this product approved for long term (permanent) use? Most are only approved for 90 days

I have had the lights in use for over a year every night. They held up fine until a squirrel chewed through the wires, and I pressure washed another set.
