Worth the Price
The CCS Toys figures are expensive but as a collector of high end Japanese robots I can say you get what you pay for. I paid around $360 from a figure specialty retailer, and not only do I not regret paying the price, but it inspired me to buy a couple more CCS Toys figures and none of them disappointed. I would put the build quality of the CCS Toys figures near the top of companies that produce high end figures. When I first got the figure, I needed to attach a few pieces including the belt, hands, head and plates on the forearms and outer thighs. The plates are to cover the batteries for light up features and are held on by magnets. They can be placed on and removed very easily and hold solidly. I did have some difficulty putting on the head and it was a real challenge removing the shin plates however once they were removed the first time, they were very easy to remove again. The chest plate was also a challenge to pull off. There are eight buttons for light up features. In order to activate the light up features you need to pull a tab for each one of them. Three of the buttons are on the exterior of the figure and the other five require the removal of a plate. I don’t recognize the types of batteries, but they look like tiny silver barrels. Almost immediately after turning on the light up features, they started going out, which I presume is because the batteries were dying. I really have no idea if this type of battery is easily available in the west, but the figure does come with spares. It doesn’t really matter since I remove the batteries in these figures to avoid damage in the future if they corrode. I wont deny that the light up features look pretty impressive in low lighting. The joints are all metal, which really helps a figure this size. You can pick the figure up and there isn’t a speck of wobble, and the figure stands rock solid with no brace. This figure looks really fabulous on the shelf but what makes it more amazing is knowing that the engineering is so well done. One of the alternate hands even features fully articulated figures, which I always love. The painting is immaculate and the detailing exquisite. This is one of those figures that looks like a piece of artwork on a shelf, and it feels as high quality as it looks. I don’t really get into the light up features and that is a huge part of the figure but there is enough other features that I think it’s absolutely worth the price.
