Rick Steves London (Travel Guide)

(Still) not lost in translation...
Some of London's finer venues were recently on display in the funereal procedures for the late Queen Elizabeth II. For those U.S. viewers inspired to go see for themselves, this newly updated Rick Steves guide to London is a wonderful starting point for planning. It bears mentioning that while the Covid-19 pandemic may be winding down, Covid-19 can still be caught, especially in crowded tourist venues such as may be found in the metropolis of London. Enterprising travelers should plan accordingly. Most guidebooks to the UK and its constituent parts rely on local experts providing advice to visitors. This is a useful approach. The value of the wildly successful Rick Steves series is that the author is a well-traveled American, translating for his home audience. This can be an even more useful approach for the average American traveler, looking to get value for their travel dollars. As Steves suggests, do yourself a favor and read the whole book, even the parts you may not think you care about, even and especially the translation guide on slang. In the case of this London guide, there is tons of useful information on planning a good trip, while avoiding some obvious and not-so-obvious problems. The author talks the first-time visitor to London through the travel, the hotels, the eating experiences, and the sights. His advice is practical and geared to the average traveler (those with a bit more money to spend have more options). The breakdown on individual attractions is wonderful, and the included maps are about as good as they get. The included brief history of Britain is also worthwhile. Very well recommended to the enterprising traveler.

Never Travel Without Rick Steves, Best Guide EVER!
Perfect guide book for London. Never been to Europe. London was our first European adventure, and it was perfect thanks to this guide book. First the size of the book, PERFECT, over 600 pgs, brochure-sized. Cover is top grade, will take punishment. I literally carried this boo everywhere. It is in most of my pictures. Right sized for easy travel and storage. Layout was PERFECT. Organized perfectly for easy access to the info you NEED. Tips and tricks were usable and valuable. I got this book a few days before our trip and read it through a couple of times. Each time I had a question, I looked it up using the perfect index. Rick covers everything you need, when you need it. I followed his walking tours, It was invaluable. I followed Rick's tips and advise, they were spot on. This book kept me informed and enlightened throughout our 8-day journey. Some places we spent more time than he recommends. It was such a joy. I will NEVER travel to Europe, anywhere, without one of his guide books. Next on the list is Italy, Venice, Rome. My Lord, Thank you Rick. Enjoyed your PBS program for years, now I am a HUGE fan of his books. Everything is covered from arrival at Heathrow, using the Tube, electrical adapters needed, etc, etc, etc. Up to date as well. Prices are correct for exhibits. A lot of work went in to this publication. Rick deserves every dime he sees from its sale. God Bless you Rick!

Best London travel book
Rick Steve’s’ books are the best. We were only at the British Museum for 5-6 hours but we were able to see the highlights by following his tour guide of the most important exhibits. He tells you exactly how to find them and in the easiest and proper order thru the huge museum. It covers everything you need for visiting London and the area outside like Hampton Palace. Important info for each attraction we visited in London plus the basics like riding the Underground, buses, tips, etc. Will take it again on our next trip.

DO WHAT IT SAYS
We spent 4 days in London but because of other scheduling it was hard to make arrangements for specific sites. DO NOT USE A TAXI. COST $206 FOR TAXI FROM AIRPORT TO HOTEL. USED UBER THE REST OF THE TIME. SPENT $112.00. Took bus tours to see many sites hop on hop off.

Useful whether first time or experienced traveller
Good reading. Useful information. Helpful travel tips. Ways to save money and to avoid long lines. Thorough, covering everything from local transportation to museums to hotels and restaurants. Very up to date. Use this book to learn about lesser known gems as well as traditionally known tourist attractions. I will definitely take this book with me on my next trip to London.
