Game changing tool to fight TMJ issues...
So I've been dealing with off and on TMJ pain for several years now. However, with the help of my amazing physical therapist, she helped get me course corrected over several sessions this past year. More importantly, she advised me to check out this Pressure Positive tool that would allow me to reach the trigger spots she would normally release for me during our session. Lo and behold, when I brought it with me for my final appointment today we gave it a test run and it was UNREAL how easily it reaches and causes the same type of release of key spots, inside the mouth. I'm not sure why another reviewer claimed it was useless and less effective than using your own fingers/gloves because I could not believe how amazingly easy it is to reach the hard to reach spots. It's a game changing tool that doesn't look like much but handles the built up tension areas like a glove.Bottom line? If you're a TMJ sufferer, although I'm no healthcare provider, I can tell you it's going to be a device I'll now be using for years to supplant the need to go to PT forever. At the very least it's worth kicking the tires on. The end.

Wonderful for intra oral massage, but pricey
So far I am very happy with this item. I have been a tmj sufferer with severe Bruxism for many years. A coworker of mine, who is also a licensed massage therapist, told me about intra-oral massage and it was a life changer. Amazing how that little muscle can cause so much jaw, neck and head pain. This is the only tool I have found that can comfortably reach those correct spot without having to use your fingers. I do wish the tips were a little bit smaller. The flat end is a little big for that space in my mouth, but otherwise great. The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. It’s a plastic tool and a short dvd that you’ll look at once. It shouldn’t cost $60. I’d like to have more than one, one for home and one for work, but at that price, I cannot justify it no matter how well it works.

Good device for intra oral treatment, but not the whole story
The device is really practical to treat the muscles under the tongue and under the chin and the lateral pterygoid. much better than the fingers, you can reach everything way better. anyway, please be a little careful and don't apply too much pressure (if you did don't worry, just bruises, no real harm, but still its not feeling so nice ;) )The DVD entails good explanations. Anyway, i still feel that there are still a lot of muscles not considered though that can make pain typically for tmj and it gives the impression that only muscles of the mouth are involved which is not the case (think of the SCM, neck, your whole body posture etc). It should be pointed out that these are not the only muscles to treat, however, the only muscles to treat with the device. I also think that this is the common problems for tmj patients who never get better. Unfortunately, you can not expect that a massage and physic therapy or a chiropractic adjustment work for you as long as you make no other changes by yourself.

Long-time TMJ issues. This is brilliant!
I've had TMJ issues for a long, long time! For years I've tried PT, exercises, splint/mouth guard. You name it I've tried it! I chanced upon an awesome PT Therapist who could "release" muscle spasms in the different jaw muscles by putting a finger in my mouth and tracing the muscle and putting pressure on a knot until it released. She even showed my hubby how to do it. This is one thing you can't do on yourself and get the same effect...until I discovered this tool! It's as close to my PT Therapist as I've found, and I can do it on myself! I wish I'd found this long ago...I've since had double jaw joint replacement surgeries as my joints were ruined from arthritis. That has been a godsend for me, but I still on occasion need this little tool to release muscle spasms in my cheek. If you are a TMJ sufferer, try this! It's wonderful how much relief you can bring to yourself! I LOVE this!!! For less than one visit to PT, (That's if you can find one who knows how to do this technique) you have a tool that will help you again and again and again.

Not a trigger point education, and tool of limited use
I get tension headaches, have TMJ, and have trigger points.I bought this at the same time as Trigger Point Therapy for Headaches and Migraines: Your Self -Treatment Workbook for Pain Relief . I found that book to be an educational, helpful, holistic approach to finding and treating trigger points. This tool + DVD on the other hand, is less valuable and won't be as helpful. The instructional DVD discusses the medial and lateral pterygoid, tensor veli palatini, masseter, and digastric muscles. It says 20 minutes, but really it's about 6 minutes of content, about a minute spent on finding each muscle, and then rest is boilerplate and repetitive. You can figure out if you need to buy this tool if you look for trigger points in these muscles on your own, and if you find it difficult to use your own fingers to apply pressure. For instance, the masseter is much more effectively treated by pinching between the thumb and forefinger, I think, and the tool doesn't add anything.Do your research first - if you don't have trigger points in these muscles, this tool will do nothing for you. Also, get some other information about how to treat trigger points. For instance, the DeLaune book says you must apply pressure at least 8 seconds but no more than 60 seconds.

Your fingers will do a much better job.
The product is hard plastic and not comfortable. The video doesn't really tell you anything you can't find out intuitively by massaging yourself. I highly recommend saving your money, buying some latex gloves, and doing an intraoral massage with your fingers instead. They will do a much better job and you can grab the muscles better and find those trigger points. The plastic want can't do that.

and this is a great tool for learning how to self massage with intraoral ...
I'm still learning to treat my TMJ pain, and this is a great tool for learning how to self massage with intraoral precision. One of the more interesting things I learned is that there is a spot somewhere by base of my tongue that when given slight pressure, helps me with nasal congestion. I especially like the fact that the DVD is very well made. The only criticism I have for this DVD is that you need to pause it every once in a while to be able to understand each part.
