This is expensive stuff but worth every penny. Without question the best that's out there. Been using it for over 20 yrs. and still have never had a failure. Just follow the instructions. Do it once and forget about it.

I installed about 20’ of Frostex about 20 years ago on a copper pipe but never plugged it in. When I finally need to use it I found that the stainless steel braid around it had completely turned to dust. A year and one half ago when I found this I had a new Frostex heat tape installed on the same pipe. That pipe froze a couple weeks ago and I found that the new tape also had the braid completely disintegrated it sections. I am now having problems trying to file a claim on the 2-year warranty.

Without a doubt the best money can buy. I built a Colorado mountain home in 1983 and used the earlier version of this cable,, called FROSTEX II. I APPLIED IT IN THREE SEPARATE circuits directly from 15A breakers in the 200 main service panel. It delivered FLAWLESS performance until October of 2020 when the East Troublesome Wildfire claimed my entire home and property, giving me 37 years of trouble free service! The Frostex II TYPE was round in cross-section, about 3/16" diameter. Hopefully this newer version still has the protection reliability. When I start building back in the Spring, this newer version will be used. Raychem is the standard in self-regulating heater cable for protecting against frozen water supply pipes and drain pipes.
