Great Value for Money! This Iron Kettle has the essentials and looks good!
This is a nice reasonably priced 1.4L Iron Cast Kettle made by ikenaga. It is between $100 and $200 less than a hand-cast kettle. I have taken these pictures after I have boiled water 5 times. The white residue inside is the expected coating developed from hard water deposits. There is a nice video by a youtuber named 'Itadakimasu Recipe' that shows how to prepare the kettle for first use and how to fix rust scale. The video appears to be of this design and model of kettle. The kettle weighs 1857grams or 65.50 ounces. Thats a little over 4 lbs. The handle will swivel down but does stay upright by itself through friction. I'm pretty confident that this is a mass produced -cast kettle as there are mould markings inside and the spout appears to be drilled. The description says it's hand finished. Anyway, it's the unlined nature and it's propensity to creat a soft taste to the boiled water that makes it special- thats what you want your kettle to do. I bought it to brew japanese green tea. (not in the kettle, it just for boiling the water) Please search for the video on youtube, it was very informative!
