I have bought 3 other rain gauges. The first one was glass. It would get dirty inside & was hard to clean because it had a narrow opening. It was also hard to see the water measurement unless you got close to it. The next two were a hard plastic. These were easy to see but they both yellowed in time and cracked. I have had this one for about a month. I was surprised when my husband included the removable ground stake when he mounted it on the fence. It makes sense though because it keeps it from moving when the clear bracket the stake has is attached to a nail. You can see it in the 2nd picture I posted. The things I like about this one are:1. It’s silicone so it won’t break or yellow (I hope it won’t yellow in time!).2. It’s very easy to see at a distance - big numbers and red ring that shows the water level.3. It’s easy to attach to a fence - all you need is 2 nails for the brackets to sit on.4. It’ll measure up to 7 inches of rain - the other I had only measured 6.The one thing you have to be careful with is where you pour out the water because the red ring falls out and you don’t want to lose it.

Silicone soft, not hard plastic, large easy to read with a red floating disc, I can see it from inside. Up to 7 inches of rain. Great for the price. Comes with spike to put it into the ground. Should last longer that glass or plastic.

I like the silicone catch tube. There hasn’t been much rain, so I can’t say if it leaks or is accurate. But the quality is good. The numbers are easy to read. And I like that you can mount it in the ground or on a post.

I’m happy to finally have a rain gauge that won’t crack or freeze. There is a little floaty device in the gauge that will rise to the top of any rainfall, making it easy to read the rain gauge from inside. There are mounting brackets as well as a ground spike included so it can be placed wherever you want! I love the durability and the large numbers.

I like that it is silicone and is not suppose to freeze and crack from weather. We shall see. I like it is easy to read, holds 6 inches, and the red marker is clear. I wish a holder was available to boost it up above what it is attached to as if the top is level with the mooring, rain and rain splash both go in so the reading is not accurate. I had to rig it to get it up above the post.

I really like the rain gauge itself. The plastic base that you can stick in the ground or hang on a screw could be better designed. I have both of mine hanging on a screw and when it is windy the wind will tip the rain gauge one way or the other. If there were two spaces for screws this would not be possible and would be an improvement. I also think that the $19.99 price was a little expensive.That's why I give this four stars instead of five. But overall I am happy with these devices and still believe they are better than the other options that I found. They do appear to provide an accurate measurement of the rainfall amount.

First, the rain gauge has separate sections for collecting water and anchoring the gauge in the ground. So, the rain gauge can be emptied without removing its base from the ground. Second, the base makes it easy to put the rain gauge out anywhere during rain or watering and estimate how much water the grass has gotten. This is super useful for managing the water in different sections of the lawn in the dry climate where I live. Water freezing in the rain gauge will not damage it, which is useful since where I live, it can often rain during the day and freeze at night. Large lettering on the gauge and a bright disc, which floats on the water in the gauge, makes it easy to read.

Finally, there is a year-round water gauge for northerners! I have had several (now broken) rain gauges from simply forgetting to bring in the gauge during an unexpected freeze. This gauge will be difficult to break due to its flexible material. I recommend it for northern climates.
