18650 Battery lovers, rejoice
I have a few versions of battery powered light bulbs. If it’s installed correctly, the light will still come on when the power goes out once you flip the switch. This is a great comfort in a power outage. The Cogent bulb is different from almost all of the other bulbs of this type sold sold on Amazon for one major point: it has a removable and replaceable 18650 lithium battery. Now, if you don’t know what an 18650 battery is, skip to the next paragraph because this next part probably won’t interest you. The included (1200 mAh) battery uses a 2-pin connector to run the bulb, but you can remove it and replace it with *two* 18650 button top batteries (flat tops will not work). In fact, even protected 18650’s will baaaaaarely fit, so you have a lot of choices. You can replace it with one battery as well. It doesn’t have to be two. Obviously, the benefit is that for prolonged outages, you can swap out batteries and keep the light gong. This is really a major uplift to functionality. The downside is that to accommodate battery pairs, it’s much larger than a typical bulb. There are a lot of different use cases where that will be a problem. I had a hard time finding a place for it to fit, and the best place was in a regular bulb-style lamp on my nightstand (which is a perfect spot, so it works well for me).The only other downside is that the bulb is weaker when it’s operating on battery. Operating from current, this is as bright as something like an 80-Watt bulb. On batteries, it’s a little more than half of that. Most bulbs of this type get weaker but this is noticeable. Also included is a screw-in switch with a hook, so you can remove the bulb completely and hang it anywhere to provide light. You can even just lay to on your kitchen table. One final note: I have included a picture of the side of the box. The biggest complaint that folks typically have with these types of bulbs is not understanding where you can use these. It has to be an isolated circuit and not in parallel with other bulbs. So, for instance, it wont work right in a three-bulb lamp or ceiling fan, or a Hollywood-style mirror frame. One switch to one bulb. If you don’t use it correctly, the bulb will never turn off and you’ll be disappointed.

Didn't last any time at all.
This wouldn't be much use in an emergency. The battery died within minutes of use. Also, the light is so blue it hurts your eyes. No!

Bright
Bought two and one didn't work. So I would say they aren't well made. They are super bright though. They don't feel doller store cheap but they also don't feel well made. Hopefully they last long.

Great Emergency Light!
The media could not be loaded. This does what I hoped it would do. I needed a combination AC and battery operated light that would come on during a power outage with the flick of a wall switch to light up my cluttered utility room in order to manually switch my main panel from line power to generator power. Prior to having this bulb, I would attempt to find a flashlight, usually in the dark, so I could find my way around. In the video, I'm shutting off the main power to the circuit that the light is on thus emulating a power outage. I can still operate the wall switch as normal with the bulb now on battery power. Every time I toggle the light switch on and off, it changes the intensity of the bulb while it's running on its battery (3 intensity settings). My plan is to just leave it in its highest setting as I only need it for the short time I'll be in the room switching the main panel over to the generator. When power goes out, the light doesn't automatically turn on, and doesn't need to stay on during the entire outage (or until it runs out of battery power). It is manually turned on and off with the lamps regular switch. This may be obvious to many, but to me it wasn't clear in the listing, and it's how I hoped that it would work.I like that it does come with a good capacity rechargeable battery installed, with the option of inserting pre-charged 18650 batteries, although I don't plan on using it that way. It is bigger than standard light bulbs, so take that into consideration when purchasing it for your application. In this case, size doesn't matter to me.While on AC power, the bulb is plenty bright enough for my needs. When it's operating on battery, it's dimmed to about 50% on its highest setting, but it's still bright enough for me. Also, from what I understand with this bulb and all others like it, it probably won't work in a fixture, or an AC line, that has more than just this one bulb. With all that said, this one works perfectly for my situation.
