The Canadians and their Royal Bavarian opponents are quickly introduced, along with an overview of the Western Front. The heart of the narrative is the description of the actual fighting, including detailed descriptions of the offensive and defensive tactics in use at the time. The narrative is nicely supported by period photographs, maps, battle diagrams, and modern illustrations. For its concise length, this book is an extraordinary introduction to trench warfare on the Western Front. Highly recommended to students of the conflict and fans of the Canadian contribution.

As a Canuck this is a book I just had to buy. It is well written and illustrated. It is a quick overview. There are many books out there now. Weighty tomes with all the details you need. For a quick overview of Canada's battle as the story of the birth of our national identity it is worth the money.

So great to read about a Canadian operation in WW1. Contains highly detailed illustrations, incredible pictures and well written and researched narrative. Another great offering from Osprey publishing. I've already pre-ordered their WW2 title about Canadians vs. Waffen-SS.
