Five CD box set containing every studio recording that this American trio released during their '60s heyday and their short-lived '70s reunion plus alternatve versions, etc. Although Scott Engel, Gary Leeds and John Maus were not actually brothers, they achieved enormous success in England and Europe and are now considered to be one of the most influential musical forces of their time. The 115 songs include 'The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore', 'Make It Easy on Yourself', 'There Goes My Baby', 'Doin' the Jerk', 'Everything's Gonna Be Alright' and many many more. Universal.

After the Lights Went Out last Night, I was Worried "Is This Box Set Coming!"
I wasn't aware of the massive improvement over 1990's "After the Lights Go Out: Best of 1965- 1967" with the sound quality. this box set sounds amazing! I've found many new favourite Walker Brothers tracks in this set. this set brings more deapth to the classic tunes such as "Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore", "Love Her", "After the Lights Go Out" and "No Regrets" This box set is a box set that Bear Family could have released! like the Move and Roger Miller box sets, this set is a big cardboard fold out case with the CD's in cases glued to the card. unlike the Move Anthology and Roger Miller King of the Road box sets of this kind of packaging, the book is attached! thank heavens! no more worrying about books falling out of pockets! a downside to this monster Bear Family style box set is the posission of CD number five, located in a dividing pocket, which divides the sections which hold disc one and two on the left, and discs 3 and 4 on the right. disc number five is in an elogical place, in the middle. the label on this disc outstands from the other discs, leading Mum to believe it was not a CD and was not part of the set. I played it in my PC, and it was in deed the right one! unlike the Move Anthology 1966- 1972, the discs are not held in by stupid push tabs on the edge of the dishes for the CD's. they are regular push the middle as you lift style dishes, making for a les frustrating CD changing experience. all that is missing from this set are the two interviews which were included on "After the Lights Go Out: Best of 1965- 1967". I hear that particular release is on it's last batch, and should become a Walker Brothers out of print collectible! the first ever CD release! it is time to retire the old girl gracefully, and pick up this 2006 5 CD compilation, everything they ever recorded, plus a previously unreleased track "Me About You"! this set was worth all the hassles I went through to get it. Walker Brothers put a nice touch on classic tunes from the 50's and 60's. just like the Righteous Brothers, this band is worth a listen!

Walker Brothers and the American Invasion!
While this edition is by no means complete, this offering gives the listener an opportunity to experience the American Invasion of music in the mid 1960s. The British invasion with its profusion of groups including but not limited to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Zombies, Dave Clark Five, the Animals, ad nauseum do not rise above the single handed ability of the Walker Brothers who in a two and half year period produced some 25 to 30 of the most amazing songs and arrangements. I recommend this edition whole heartedly! Michael S.

Walker Brothers Live in Japan- For Completists Only
I am a big Scott Walker/Walker Brothers fan, so I was interested in this CD from their short tour of Japan prior to their 60's demise. I have the Japanese vinyl import 2 disc set which offers a similar set list. The sound quality isn't bad but one cannot compare the studio recordings which have state of the art arrangements and vocals. I suppose that this tour was rather obligational as Scott was starting to become less interested in the pop stardom side of the Walker's phenomenon. The set list is somewhat disparate mixing rock numbers with their ballads and they simply cannot hope to reproduce the studio versions to any reasonable effect in the live setting. If you take these factors into account, and you are a completist, then I believe this release is worth having.

Crucial
What more can you say, it's all the Walker Brothers material, it's crucial. In terms of the non music aspects, the cds come in a hilarious booklet that says "WOW! OUTTA SITE! FANTASTIC 5 DISC SET!" on the front. It's cheesy as hell and it warms my heart.

Everything by the Walker Brothers
I would definitely grab this while sellers are still offering it for under £20. This is a brilliant collection of the entire Walker Brothers back catalogue. Across 5 exceedingly listenable CDs, one can hear every single and album track from their 60s heyday and their mid-70s reunion. The first disc undoubtedly is the best overall, not only a golden era for the Walker Brothers themselves but also for 60s pop in general, a glorious time to be a pop music fan. There is hardly a drop in quality on CDs 2 and 3 though one can start to hear the melancholy creeping into the music and the singing but it is nevertheless enthralling and bold. Depending on one's tastes, the mid-70s tracks do contain a few Walker Brothers' classics like "No Regrets" but the music is very much typical of the period, an era in which country music was dominant. The vocals remain strong and there are some great tracks on CD 4 but it is CD 5 which is the keeper as it contains the legendary final Walker Brothers' album "Nite Flights", a bold, experimental album which some might feel shines a light in the direction that Scott Walker would take in the mid-80s with his "Climate of Hunter" album. Given that it is impossible to find "Nite Flights" on its own, "Everything Under The Sun" is well worth getting for this reason alone.

Stunning!!!!
I've got Scott Walker's much sought after box set, "Easy Pieces"I avoided this Walker Brothers box set for years as it was vastly overpricedNow however.......£20? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!5 CDs, a comprehensive, detailed history of one of the best, but underrated groups of the sixties.Add to this, a fantastic sixties styled built in booklet, it's a fantastic buy.In my opinion, Scott Walker, one of THE best vocalists EVERArgue or debate if you want, i'm still buying the great man's music, but.....Back to The Walker Brothers....This is one of the best box sets you can buy, it's put together with great detail, love, attention, in short, it's fantastic...buy now!

I can only compare his unique singing voice with that of Karen Carpenter another truly gifted singer who also sounded like nobod
This is a superb collection for any fan of The Walkers and / or Scott Walker, containing all six of their albums 3 from their 60's heyday and 3 from their 70's reunion plus several unreleased 60's tracks. Their voices are almost drowned out on some tracks by the 'British Wall Of Sound' arranged by Ivor Raymonde ,Jon Franz and Reg Guest but the sound is still fantastic. the formerly unreleased tracks are all very good , even 'A Fool Am I' [A hit for Cilla Black] with an incomplete Scott vocal which is a pity as the backing track is awesome.Scott Walker's voice is unique , a gift that perhaps he found a burden as he attempted to move in other musical directions.I can think of no other male singer with such talent. I can only compare his unique singing voice with that of Karen Carpenter another truly gifted singer who also sounded like nobody else.I wish Scott would make an album of great orchestral backed songs which showcase his voice and come to terms with just how great a singer he is.

Everything Under the Sun
I love this release, it contains all of the Walker Brothers tracks, of which some are truly spectacular. It contains a large attached booklet that has the feel of a journal or a fanzine. The only reasons I would not give this a ten out of ten is that - unlike the rest of the discs - the fifth disc isn't protected very well, it's basically inserted into the last page of the booklet which is made of a thicker card. Also there are tracks here that I don't really care for. Some of these tracks really are fantastic though and warrant a purchase on their own, tracks like 'The Girl I Lost In The Rain' or 'Archangel' are just amazing for instance. To read a full detailed review including many pictures of the packaging check out my blog[...]
