It's not the end all, but it still works great!
My husband uses this for tying his chicken up before he cooks it on the grill. One person said the string was a little loose which made tying a little more difficult. I can see what they are saying. When he ties up the chicken, he'll have me hold the 1st tie and then make a knot, but the once I move my finger the string starts to loosen. If you aren't cooking on a professional level and you just need cooking string, this will work fine. It's a descent price and you get quite a bit of string that will last you a long time. The little cutting knife on top is sometimes hard to get to work right, but once you have mastered it you are fine.Think about what you will use this for. Do you have your own small business? Well, you might want to find something a little better. Are you just using it for personal cooking? Then this will more than fit the bill.

OK, so I don't need butcher twine very often, but now that I have this it is a perfect solution. I do a lot of BBQ on my Big Green Egg. when making stuffed pork loins, or a rib roast, I was always is search of something to tie them with. I've used some other cotton twines in the past and they worked, but what I could find was not as sturdy as I would like. Seems that Butchers twine is hard to find locally. Saw this an Amazon, price was right, and although this will be a lifetime supply for me, happy I have it. Not much to say as to functionality, after all this is just string, but it is the official stuff and works well.

So good, it's almost a marriage ender!
My wife, not realizing how valuable good butcher's twine is to a meat cooker like me, used some to tie up a small bundle of Wysteria to hang on the wall. I let this pass, because I love her dearly. But then, as she was about to put my beloved twine back in the drawer where it belongs, she began to dangle it above the cat's head. I immediately sprang into action: You do ~not~ mess with a man's butcher's twine! This twine is for wrapping roasts or Boston butts to put in the smoker; not for entertaining a spoiled cat.I would never leave my lovely wife over a $6 ball of twine, but she certainly knows better than doing that -- at least in front of me.

MADE IN USA?
I bought a nice little kitchen twine holder and it came with a ball of twine. However, the twine was not wrapped and it looked yellowed/dirty. I realized then that the container was made in China, and had to believe that the twine was also made there--God knows how many people handled it and where it had been on its travels. So I tossed the twine, washed the container, and searched Amazon for some nice Butcher's twine. I found this and it seemed the perfect size--and is WRAPPED. It arrived in no time and looked 100% better than the original twine I had gotten, and so for that reason I am pleased and giving it five stars. Hopefully, this twine is made in the USA and was immediately wrapped upon completion . . . can't stand the thought of contamination in the kitchen!

It's...a ball of butcher's twine
Got this to fill up to free shipping. Works great on all the chickens I tie up, which is about 2 a year and a couple other trussing jobs I use it for. At this rate, the ball will likely last well into the next decade. Does not burn, even with the oven blazing at 450 for an hour or so.Rather than buying some expensive twine keeper, I just inverted a small terra cotta flower pot with a hole in the bottom on top of the ball. This has a convenient dispensing hole for the twine and is heavy enough to keep the ball secured. In theory, the clay might also absorb ambient humidity to keep the twine from getting moldy as well.

Fits in drawer space
I liked that it was easy to leave on the plastic wrap and cut a small hole in the center where the string easily pulls out. The ball of string stays clean.

After initial issues with delivery (not amazon) product was delivered and as expected. Will update again once we've used it in the smoker.

It's just string....
Well, I guess it is my own fault I was disappointed.I thought the ball I'd be receiving would be a lot larger for the price.People, read the square footage when shopping. My husband is in chef school and requested some butcher twine for cooking meats.(We had the bi-colored thinner twine, but he said that is hard to tie when dealingwith meat and his big hands!)I should have just got the bolt - this was too small. It also took quite a while to ship, but I think that was Amazon, not the seller.I guess they held up this item while waiting for the rest of my order to be in stock? Not sure.Anyway, if you have any hardware chains or wally world chains in your area, just shopfor the "butcher twine" there. This was just thick string, and I feel the price was too highfor what was received.SPECIAL NOTE: The comment about reading the "square footage" was an attempt at humor.I forgot that many people do not possess said humor, and prefer to be anal.Just read the dimensions of the twine and/or carefully. I did not read the totalLENGTH I would receive - the photo is a bit deceiving.Hope that helps clarify the Sq Ft comment.

International String
I must admit that when I ordered this string I paid little attention to where it was actually coming from. I did think it was taking rather a long time to arrive and was thinking of contacting amazon . The very next day a parcel arrived from Europe with a European customs stamp. The price however was in US$.and oon checking I discovered that it was originally posted in the US and in fact, made there in New Rochelle NY10881. Dont we make string anymre?

Posh name for a simple product
It's string - you know - the old fashioned stuff we used to wrap up Christmas presents with! Don't know why it's so relatively expensive though.

It works as it should
First time purchasing and using twine for food. I used it to tie back a whole turkey on indirect heat on a gas grill at 350 Fahrenheit and it worked without causing any burn marks on the twine.
