Immerse yourself in a deeply affecting story
This book captured me so completely I could barely put it down. Sandra, like the house she inherited from her grandfather, is in need of fixing, but she hasn't the energy after her politician husband dies in the car accident that nearly claimed her life, too. She finally decides that she will have the house repaired, sell it, and leave the pergatory of her former friends' and the townspeople's accusations that she murdered their favorite son.Sandra hires Mike Malloy. Coming off a divorce and wanting to remain close to his two children, this job may be his ticket to finding a place to live that the social worker periodically checking in on him will approve. In the course of fixing the house, which deserves to be restored to its historical roots, Mike begins to suspect that the accident that killed Sandra's husband and his former best friend isn't all that has been described. When he stumbles on some hints, he is determined that Sandra should confront what really happened, but can she do it? Will she do it?How each of these troubled individuals finds themselves and helps to heal each other is both affecting and reflective of the complexities of real life.

Kept me turning the page.
Susan Wiggs has written a really good contemporary love story here. I enjoyed the character development and the sassy conversations between the two main characters. Although I had the mystery surrounding the accident figured out midway thru the book, I loved the way it was finally revealed. I definitely wanted to live in the house that Malloy restored. This was just a great read.

she's just so good ...
The first book by Susan Wiggs that I read was 'The You I Never Knew'. It was so well written that I picked up a couple of her historical romances. Despite not particularly finding historical romances enjoyable I have to admit that I liked them. Now I've read 'Passing Through Paradise' and I hope Wiggs writes many more contemporary romances. She's just so good at it. This one is about Sandra Winslow, a children's book author and the widow of a politician who died in a tragic and suspicious automobile accident which Sandra survived. She cannot recall the circumstances of the accident or how she survived and soon becomes the leading suspect and a pariah in the town of Paradise. In order to flee from Paradise she must restore and sell her beach house, the only asset she retained following her husband's death. She meets Mike Malloy, a contractor who agrees to do the restoration for her despite his doubts about her innosense. As Wiggs slowly reveals the actual events surrounding the accident she also explores the complex relationships between Mitch and Sandra, Sandra and her loving but estranged parents, and between Mitch, his young children and his ex wife. Wiggs brings all her characters and thier problems to life and keeps her readers entranced until the last surprising page. I can't wait for her next contemporary novel.

It is a great book to read.
I have been an avid reader of Susan Wiggs for years. She writes with such depth, and her stories are, once you get started, hard to put down. But this particular story really touched me. I don't know that I personally could have gone through all that the main character went through, and stay strong. But she did! I highly recommend it. In fact, I couldn't find a copy of this book to send my best friend for her birthday, so I ordered this last copy off Amazon. My thanks to Amazon for their good work in getting products to me on a timely basis.

Don't miss it!!
This book is one you don't want to miss. It's worth reading time. It has enough twists and turns to hold your attention. In my opinion any of Susan Wiggs books are very good to excellent. She is one of the best authors and has written many books.I have never had to lay one of her books aside due to lack of interest and if I am reading at night I hate to turn out the light!!Darlene

True Wiggs entertainment
As in all the books that I have read by Susan Wiggs she knows how to make the story end with a little mystery and this one is no exception. The ending was a surprise, but in a good way. I enjoyed her descriptions of the little town; I could picture it as a place that I would like to visit.

Moving
Avery moving tale so well described by Susan Wiggs mistress of story telling who keeps you hanging on to the end not knowing for sure what it was going to be but hopping it was going to be good then ends blissfully with a twist.
