New Balance Men's 481 V3 Trail Running Shoe

Comfortable and they hold up well

Update 7/22/2022Yellowstone/Grand Teton hiking updateOk put these to the test. I'm 250 lbs. Hiked Grant Teton to Inspiration Point = 1 mile with a 1000 ft rise. The trail is blazed and mostly easy until the last rise which is all craggly rock (good for shredding tennis shoes). My son had regular tennis/walking shoes and it hurt his feet. My feet were little happy paws. Loved having these shoes. Usually I would use hiking boots.Also hiking around the boardwalks in Yellowstone and some of the trails.The shoes held up and were solid hiking shoes to the point that I never had to pull out my hiking boots.Maybe if we were in the back country one might need boots for ankle support. But all other hikes these would be great.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Shoe is great. Best fit is to lace all the way to the top eyelets because it keeps the shoe snug.Very comfortable. Going to use these hiking in yellowstone. I will try to update after my trip this year.

I’ve been buying NB for years and wanted this model for trail use. The local store didn’t carry them but I figured I’ve rarely tried them on because they consistently fit. So I bought them here (online) and wasn’t disappointed. I find NB shoes last a long time and they’ve never come apart, even wearing them in all weather (including snow and rain).Over all I like these shoes.The tread design works well “off road”. I use them to walk the dogs or jog in the woods on the local dirt trails. I find them comfortable and fit as expected and the traction is good. Also, mud doesn’t cake in them, I’m able to easily stamp the dirt off.Two downsides: 1) the laces are thin (yet strong) strings which easily slide through the eyelets which I find difficult to snug the shoe. I pull and when cinching the knot they let go just a bit. Plus they come undone often. It has been difficult to tighten the bottom and work up because they slide through the holes quickly. My running shoes have thicker laces and stay tight. Yes, Laces are simple to replace.2) the arch support could be better. They do have support, but I could use a bit more. Other shoes I’ve had came with little shims, it would be nice if NB could do something like that.

My size was not available, only the same size but in WIDE. I thought "meh, they probably fit anyway". NOT. They were too wide. Those are definately made for some wide puppies, I mean, for some big _ss tamales. Nothing wrong with them, they looked awesome. Totally my fault. I want to buy them again in MY size really soon.

I bought in 2018 and lasted until 2024. The sole on the left front 1/2 detached and cant be glued back. I put it through moderate to heavy use! so It fit well and is comfortable.

This is a nice set of shoes. I purchased them and was amazed how fast they arrived. I was even more amazed that their were two shoes in the box. I thought you only received one shoe but no you get two. Also the beautiful box that the shoes were packaged in they put both shoes in one box. I say to myself what will they think of next. The quality of the shoes were really good and were a good fit right out of box they came in. I must say that if you need a fine set of shoes these will fit the bill. All in all this was a great experience shopping at my local Amazon shoe store where they apparently have a buy one shoe and get one shoe free deal going on. One other nice thing about these shoes is that they came with laces and get this the laces were already put on the shoes talk about a time saver. In conclusion I would walk briskly to my nearby Amazon shoe store and give these New Balance shoes a try.

While the toe box is spacious, the overall fit feels somewhat loose, especially in the midfoot area. This can cause a lack of stability, which is not ideal when navigating challenging terrains. The lacing system doesn't do much to address this issue, as it doesn't provide enough lockdown or customization options.Another downside of the 481 v3 is its weight. Compared to other trail running shoes in its category, it feels bulkier and heavier. This can be a disadvantage when seeking speed or maneuverability on technical trails. Additionally, the shoe lacks sufficient breathability, resulting in sweaty and uncomfortable feet during longer runs.Lastly, the design and aesthetics of the 481 v3 are rather plain and unremarkable. While this might not be a significant factor for everyone, I personally prefer a shoe that not only performs well but also looks appealing.In short, the New Balance 481 v3 Trail Running Shoe has its strengths, such as solid traction and durability. However, the issues with fit, weight, breathability, and aesthetics prevent me from rating it higher. If you're looking for an affordable option with decent performance on moderate trails, it might be worth considering, but for more serious trail runners, there are better options available.

These are becoming hard to find. As a overweight person with wide feet, these are perfect for me to be on my feet all day.
