The Best Short Stories of O. Henry (Modern Library)

I read in the reviews that the pages were on the thin side and the print was on the light side. I agree with this review but it was for my 14 year old g daughter who has better eyes than I. However, the book size makes for an easy carry and it is bound very well to protect these classics until well into the future.

I was a bit dissappointed that the majority of this book is made up of the collection of the chapters that comprise Kings and Cabbages so if you've already read that then you'll only find 60 or so pages of new O Henry material here.

O.Henry continues to resonate in today's age. His descriptions and attention to people's lives and emotions transcend the decades and touch readers of current era. O.Henry continues to be the master of the surprise ending.

It was a Christmas gift and she seems pleased..

O. Henry's wonderful short stories are characterized by four prominent elements.He clearly understands the nuances of the times about which he writes. He has an amazing gift for capturing the personalities of people from many, many stations in Life. He is an incredibly superb story-crafter. His skill at introducing and managing Humor is among the very best in the entire histroy of American Literature. One can always debate the story selections in any "Best of..." book but this one is a delight.

great stories for young and teens

I like this book. However, the language used means the reader has to do a little work.

I would recommend this book to anyone that has a good imagination and a good sense of humor. These short stories are entertaining and very funny. One short story "The Ransom of Red Chief" is a real classic. There is a companion short created for television starring Struther Martin and Jack Elam. It is fun to have your children, grandchildren, or nephews read this short story then watch this classic short together.

Some stories are really interesting. But very much north American.

a very good read

Good cover, good book, excellent author!

Well, received after a week of order, was waiting for the book after watching Lootera( believe me I watched now in lockdown of 2020) which had a some part of O henry's finest work of ' The Last Leaf', but this books brings me disappointment , it doesnt include the Last Leaf.Okay not too much negative, this book is excellent good packing , font and page quality makes perfect for its value. Go for it.I don' t know why people do not include the last leaf in this book, although other stories are equally great.
