Let's go back to Lancaster County!
The angst I felt in this story and the relationships that were so hard kept me reading because I had to find out why they were so hard. I loved the resolution.

I loved this book
I loved this book!!! Tilly has left the Amish world and married an Englischer. She has 2 daughters. Ruth is also living Englisch but I'm not sure if she ever joined church. Their dad is ill and their brother asks them to come home for an anniversary celebration. They go, but Tilly and her dad are just not getting along, Tilly tries but her dad rebuffs her efforts. Then they learn that their parents have deeded their farm to their brother and will be moving into the dawdi house on the property The girls stay to help their parents pack up and move next door. Long ago, their little sister Anna drowned in the river and her body was never recovered. Tilly blames herself for her sister's death. I won't give away what brought Tilly and her dad together, but in the end hey reconciled. After the last series that wasn't Beverly Lewis, this was right on the money.

YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN
My only disappointment with any of Beverly Lewis's books are that they come to an end. MS. Lewis is the premier Amish writer of Amish fiction.I have read everyone of her ADULT books. Every book draws you into the story. You feel as if you know the characters. There is always a story line that is so different. Makes you wonder how she thought of this story line and how does she create each character of the book. The River is no different from her other stories. From the very beginning you know that you want to find the secrets of this family. Why did two of the sister's leave their Amish life behind. And what a story it is. I hope that Ms. Lewis will continue to develop these characters into another book. I have more questions about this family and more secrets to be told. Beverly Lewis is the best of the best Amish Fiction. I wish she could write faster !!!!!

I love Beverly Lewis and I've read all of her books
I love Beverly Lewis and I've read all of her books. This book is really good, and I enjoyed reading it. I only gave it four stars because after reading her last few stand alone novels, I've discovered that I prefer her series more. When she writes a series of novels, it allows her to get more in depth with the characters and the story. These shorter stand alone novels don't allow for that. On the positive side, you don't have to wait for the next book to come out to get the conclusion of the story.

good
I have read many of the books by Beverly Lewis. This is one of the better ones. A couple of points. Maybe I missed it, but I dont have any idea of what the jamborees is or why/how that interfered with Ruth's relationship. Also, obviously Tilly's mother realized all along that her husband was not being fair to Tilly, and why. Even in a religion that teaches submission, I find it hard to believe she would let this go on for Tilly's whole life and never at least say something to her husband.

Hurting too Long
I can always depend on a good story from Beverly Lewis. I have found I enjoy some of the newyoung authors but when I want the story to have more of an Amish feel I return to Beverly Lewis.I want to hear some of their language in the story and some of the newer writers hardly put it in.Thank you Beverly for keeping them Amish.

An Amish Story
I read this on the KindleThis was a funny sort of one i love Beverly Lewis's books but this didn't grab me to start with as her other books it was only the last 4 or so chapters that i didn't want to put it down & so was reading it late in to the nightThe Story is about secrets & how Tilly & her father were while she was growing up she & her sister Ruth have gone in to the English worldWhile the book & story is good i could have stopped reading this one up to about half way through it not that it bad it just not that it didn't follow & the way some of Tilly's brothers were where is the forgiveness also with Tilly & her father it just didn't seem to be how it would be or someone would say somethingRuth has her own choices to make concerning an old BeauI say if you get this do stick with it but i would possible if given the choice pick possible another one of her books
