Play On Brother Nat!
This 4 cd set overview of the start of Nat Adderley's recording career is just great music by one of my favorite musicians. The only album of the eight featured in this set that I already owned is 1960's "Work Song". Like his brother Julian, Nat was one of the most versatile musicians ever-as those who indeed mastered the forms of bebop & the blues -are few and far between. This eight albums show Mr. Adderley moving comfortable from song to song and displaying his unique voice on the cornet. What I've always loved about Nat's playing is-like Donald Bryrd-all his solos manage to tell a story while keeping the groove going-in uptempo & ballad settings. His playing in this set(and throughout his life) NEVER becomes an endless exercise in technique like "critictal acclaim" favorites of his era. In this set, from 1958's "Branching Out" with the Little Giant Johnny Griffin & the Three Sounds to 1961's "Naturally" with two hall of rhythm sections, Nat Adderley's playing throughout these eight albums is inventive & soulful. I finally got a chance to see him live back in 1992 as his quintet with old comrades Walter Booker & Jimmy Cobb & young Vincent Herring rocked the opening night of the local jazz festival. That night as I was just trying to take in the powerful message the quintet was giving out, the big constant smile of Mr. Adderley remains a great memory. This 4 cd set will be in constant rotation in my cd changer.

Really nice set and value
Really nice set and value. EIGHT ALBUMS on FOUR CDs. My husband loves smooth jazz and I bought this collection for him and it was a huge hit with both of us. Really cute....the CDs look like miniature vinyl records!

Nat's Playing Is Always a Blast
I've been a fan of Nat Adderley's playing for decades. This collection of his early work is a great addition to the collection of his later works I already own. All the expected "hits" are here as well as some other tasty tidbits.

My Name is Nat Adderley.
Nat Adderley always seemed overshadowed in the eyes of some critics and fans by his brother Cannonball but this was very unfair as Nat could stand on his own. Today he has been recognized as a major trumpet voice. These fine early recordings in various contexts with and without his brother demonstrate Nat's unique and sometimes humerus approach to Jazz. He WAS a major voice even then....here's proof. Some of these recordings are hard to find and this is a great place to discover them. That's Nat!

No brainer
A no brainer by any definition, one even gets very hard to find CD's of the Jazz artist within this box set. Nat is fun, entertaining, highly musical, a great composer, and all I need to say , is that this is worth every penny I spent on this set, and then some more .SuperbCheersLM
