Love the finish
Though meant for exterior applications, I used on an accent wall and kept windows open a few days. Also used on end table and let it on porch to cure. Spar varnish brings the wood alive. Pulls the beauty out.

Long lasting!
Follow directions for easy application and long lasting protection and shine. This table is always outside and last application of marine Spar Varnish lasted nearly 6 years.

High quality varnish
Love this varnish. I have south facing exterior mahogany doors that have been refinished 3 times. I did this all by myself and was so pleased at the finish and the hope that I don’t have to do this job for more than 5 years. Great quality and I used a tee shirt pad for first coat with 20% mineral spirits and then brush dipped in mineral spirits and tapped out for second coat. It is pretty glossy for satin. Dried quickly and clean up was a breeze. I recommend it highly.

Beauty that lasts ! (but not satin)
I did my 100 year old front doors with this 8 years ago ( a pro friend recommended). They doors get full sun, and I've been noticing they've been getting a little shabby looking. I was starting to dread another strip down job coming. But after a good cleaning (Murphy's Oil Soap) , I realized they were't so bad. There was some light hazing, but the varnish was perfectly physically intact. Before that i used to use Polyurethane, which is pretty much guaranteed to start flaking after 2-3 years. So it was a great relief, and I decided to give them a light sanding and a couple of coats to freshen up. It was still a bit of work because theres a lot of intricate molding and scrollwork, but I avoided the complete strip .Only downside is ( so -1 star): as pointed out by another upset reviewer, is that it is not satin any more. I used the "satin" last time too, and this time it came at least semi-glossy, if not almost full gloss. Didn't seem like there was a lot of the gloss component in the bottom of the can . maybe they changed the formula somehow? . But ihat doesn't really bother me since it looks so lustrous.Couldn't care less about the VOC's I like knowing I'm using the real deal..

Good product
Worked well so far. Need to see if it will hold up to the hot summer.

Will Not Bond and will not dry to even sheen.
After hours of reviewing different products I purchased this to put a finish on an antique buffet that I was going to use as a bathroom vanity. I wanted a product that would seal the piece against the humidity of a bathroom. I read the instructions and sprayed the buffet after meticulously cleaning it. It took a good 30 min of stirring this stuff to get it reconstituted. It must have been sitting on someones shelf for years before I bought it. The product is rather thick and did not spray very flat at all. It took a heavy coat to get it to lay down. The first thing I noticed is the strong odor. The finish would not dry very fast either but I attributed this to the heavier spray coat in effort to get it to lay flat. The buffet sat for two days in favorable temps and humidity before you could touch it. It DID NOT dry to an even sheen. Many areas (especially the thicker areas) dried to a gloss and others to a satin. I called Valspar and they said it may just take more time. They also said they don't recommend spraying it. The instructions did say brush it but they did not say anything about not spraying it. So they recommended letting it sit for more days. After a week it was finally dry. As I was inspecting it, my finger nail caught a corner of and pulled up a little finish. This finish WILL NOT BOND to anything that is not bare wood. The buffet was painted with black latex and then sanded to distress it. I've sprayed a lot of poly and other products but I've never seen one that wont bond like this stuff. It now flakes off at the slightest nick. The buffet will now have to be stripped and completely re finished thanks to this disaster of a product.

Easy to use and great for outdoors
Easy to apply. Good color.. not too yellowing. The waterproof protection remains to be seen, but I have confidence. This is a trusted brand.

Probably the Best Available
Used this a second time on the cypress posts on my front porch. Overall satisfactory but turns dull in direct sunlight. Still haven't found anything better!
