Handy to have
Very thorough discussion of all things Oaxaca. Without having read this publication in advance, there are many things I would have missed, or not sought further information on once on the ground there. I assume there may be a newer/revised edition now, or will be soon?

Very good quality and summary of the state of Oaxaca
If you're going to Oaxaca, it's the best book I found on the market, and I looked through most of them. It has very good and in-depth coverage of the city itself, with limited sections on surrounding areas within the state. There's just enough very minimal stuff on other states to help you out, but if you need that, buy a different book. Also much more detailed and useful for Oaxaca than any chapter in an all-Mexico book. The culture and history sections are especially well done.

Good basic guide to Oaxaca
This book came in handy on our trip to Oaxaca Tips on the best activities, attractions, restaurants and hotels. Not quite as detailed as Fodor, Lonely Planet or some others, but the info was pretty current. It complemented the Viva Oaxaca guide from Robert Adler pretty well.

Chance to visit or revisit one of the greatest areas of Mexico, in a book.
Enjoyed the book as I have the area over the yaars. First visit to Mexico was 1953, began a doctorate on American Studies, focusing on American SW but with tracks to ancient Mexico. Oaxaca was awesome, from the colonial city to the ruins to the ancient magical tree. When I went there, it was raining and a man was under the tree playing a flute, no one else... magic..

fairly helpful
In my opinion, the author (s) gets a bit carried away by descriptive language and leaves something to be desired in regards to logistic details. Would benefit from a rewrite - treat it less like a novel and more like a book that people traveling to Oaxaca for the first time can depend on to get them where they need to go.

Useful information
The book is informative and useful. The suggestions for planning and making the most of two week trip will be helpful. Learning about the area and it's people is important. Choosing the sites and how to get there is valuable information. .

Moon Oaxaca
Great book. Very helpful. It covers Huatulco Beaches on the Pacific Coast. It was hard to find a guide book that covers that region in Mexico.
