I used my phone's usb charge cable and they work fine. These cables are flawed and do not work ...
I ordered 6 of these to data log temperature zones around the house. After hours and hours of trying to get them to show up in the windows device manager I found that all 6 of the cables that came with these devices would not work on the data side. I used my phone's usb charge cable and they work fine. These cables are flawed and do not work correctly. The boards seem to work fine.

IMPORTANT: LARGER FOOTPRINT THAN NodeMCU ESP8266 CP2102
This is one of my go to micro-controllers. It's basically an Arduino with wifi. It only has 1 analog pin, so make sure your project doesn't need more than 1 analog input/out. It's also worth noting that it won't work with a mini breadboard. It will fit, but it takes up the entire width, so you'll have no access to the pins (see accompanying image).

Great board, great price. Toss the cables.
These ARE the LoLin v3 NodeMCU boards you're looking for. They fit perfectly into the Wingoneer NodeMCU base, unlike the HiLetgo boards, which are too narrow. These boards use the CH340G USB-to-Serial chip which worked just fine on my MacBook Pro. My use case for these is to connect my old wired security alarm to my SmartThings hub using the Konnected.io project.Like other reviewers said, just toss the micro USB cables in the trash. You can use them for power only, but I don't know why this seller would create confusion by including a cable that CANNOT be used to program the boards.

Enjoy the board, but buy the cables elsewhere
The boards themselves are good boards - but the included cables are awful. They're power only, and we broke three of them just unplugging them from a USB hub. You can buy good quality cables elsewhere for under $1, which I highly recommend you do.

This worked great, and are of good quality
This worked great, and are of good quality. The only problem I had with them is because of the width of them, the board fits into my breadboard, but in the outer pins so I can't use any of the pins boards.

Consistently having trouble with USB communication with these devices. ...
Consistently having trouble with USB communication with these devices. It uses the CH340G USB to UART. Extremely, painfully unreliable. It doesn't seem to matter what code is running on these devices... many different PCs all drop the USB connection.Exceedingly frustrating. No datasheet or schematic comes with these. So you are on your own searching the web for help. But the help comes in fragments that may or may not apply to the specific version of this board you might have.

Great purchase!!
Great modules. I’m using one to control a WS2812 light strip via MQTT so far. It’s working great. The included micro USB cables are a nice touch for the price!
