Images of what might have been!
This is a fascinating book for someone who is fit and active and loves mountaineering and extreme walking and wants to take their passion to new levels - the highest levels in the world! It provides fairly brief but informative accounts of a selection of treks in different parts of the Himalaya coupled with some of the most evocative mountain photography I have ever seen. As a practical guide book it would be of little use, but then it is not intended as such - more something to gain some basic knowledge and understanding of each trek and its area to whet the appetite for someone who would then use a trekking company to provide the actual guiding and support that would be needed to carry out each trek. I am now 'past it' physically, but I love this book for its showing me an area of the world that I'd have loved to visit and explore when I was younger and fitter but, unfortunately, not sufficiently well-off to go trekking in the Himalaya.

A good gift for walkers
I'm not a hiker, so I gave this to my American friend who hikes all over the globe. She was delighted with the gift. So while I can't say much about the book's content, it certainly seemed to hit the sweet spot with an experience walker.
