Good Quality Saffron Threads... It's Just A Shame The Container Is So Poorly Designed
This is good quality saffron from Blissbia. You get 1g presented in a sort of petri dish. That plastic dish is a pain to open as it's held together with some tape and then you have to get your fingernail in to pop it open. You have to be careful not to spill any of the precious saffron. This is the weakest part of this product. It needs a better container. In terms of taste and colour, I've only used a small amount to make an apricot chicken tagine dish. I wouldn't say I noticed it specifically, but the recipe called for it and the end result was a really tasty dish.If you need pure saffron then this is good, it's just a shame you have to be so careful with the packaging.

It's OK for the price.
I have never bought saffron before, so I was sceptical with this product at first as I thought it should be pricier than its £2.99 current price. It’s hard to know if this is the real thing or not, since there are so many fake saffrons on the market.I’ve heard that saffron is good for tired eyes, besides its other health benefits. So I added a few strands in a stainless steel mug and noticed that they were fully dissipated upon infusion, it’s quite flavourful and the yellow colour didn’t suddenly leech out, so it might be the real thing. It’s still too early to see positive results with my eye health, but I’m quite pleased with this product so far. It might not be the best quality or the freshest saffron but it’s not a bad product either.

Authentic and subtle
This is excellent value for money, and a little saffron goes a long way. This is bright red in colour, but when mixed with rice, liquids etc, it turns an authentic yellow. The flavour is subtle and it works well in paella. The packaging is tricky and you need to find a container for the saffron. It would be better if it was provided in a sealed bottle of some kind. Good product, good price.

As Expected for the Price
I use a lot of Saffron and am very lucky to have a friend who brings me some grade A quality, twice a year when working abroad. Every saffron frond is trumpet-shaped, slowly releases a golden colour when placed in cold water and after soaking if you take pieces out and gently rub between your fingers they do not fall apart and the strands do not turned white - a sign of 'real' saffron and top quality, according to my very knowlegeable friend. She said fake saffron signs are a) when placed in cold water it will immediately release a lot of colour b) there will be no or very few trumpet-shaped fronds c) once soaked sometimes the fronds will turn white and if you rub gently between your fingers the fronds will usually break up or disintegrate. This £2.99 pack of Blissbia 1g Spanish saffron passes the 'real' test but my friend commented that it is only reasonable quality because not every frond has the trumpet-shaped end.

Real saffron with a honey flavour
This saffron passes the two finger test - so that when you roll a few threads between your fingers, they maintain their shape and structure and do not crumble to dust. They float in water and maintain their colour after removal from soaking. So yes, this is red saffron. It is slightly bitter on the tongue but in rice it imparts a sweeter, slightly honeyed flavour which makes it perfect for paella. I can't comment on the A+ rating because I don't know enough. but this is a good price for 1 gram, not least because you really do not need much to flavour and colour your dish. Mine came with a 12 month best before date of June 2023

A little goes a long way
This small sachet of Spanish Saffron bright orange/red stigmas come from Crocus flowers and is great in sweet and savoury dishes. I like to add a strand to my scrambled eggs and also to my rice. The scent is slightly musky like dried grass and the flavour is mild, creamy with a faint bitterness. All this adds a depth of flavour to more delicate dishes. Only a thread or two is needed to add colour and flavour.

Nice little starter pot
Saffron is an expensive item. 1g doesn’t seem like much but you don’t need a lot each time so there’s actually plenty here to last a little while. It’s true that ‘you get what you pay for’, so I think this little pot is probably middle of the range - it’s not bad though if you’re new to saffron. If you put too much in your food it can overtake it, making it too floral and even a bit bitter so. Adds a lovely colour and feels very decadent to use. As saffron needs moisture to develop the flavour, either let it bloom first in some hot water, or add it early in your cooking when there’s plenty of liquid so it can develop over the cook. Store in a cool dark place - as with all herbs and spices, they start to lose their flavour and best and beneficial properties when exposed to light and air.

Decent for the price
This is way better than the average saffron you’d get in a supermarket although comparable or even cheaper in price (currently £2.99 for a gram). It is not top quality but you paying far from a top quality price.
