one head at a time...
I first purchased this toothbrush at my local health food store but I can't find the soft refill heads anywhere local so I checked amazon and lo-and-behold they have 'em. Now I can continue saving the world one toothbrush at a time ;). The heads are a piece of cake to put in and take out and I can feel better about changing out my toothbrush regularly.

Terradent's Dirty Little Secret Continues
Like Topazgirl, I discovered a hideous black mold between the back of the replaceable head and the well into which it fits in the toothbrush handle. This didn't happen until I had changed the head four times over the course of about a year - the first three used heads were clean when I removed them. I wish I'd seen this review before I bought the Terradent, because my experience popping off the head and seeing that mold was deeply upsetting. I can't even describe how disgusting and scary that mold looks.I cleaned the brush handle and then thought, "Wait a minute - I should have this stuff analyzed." So I saved the head with its load of moldy sludge and will take it to a lab for analysis. If I've been exposed to something truly dangerous, I want to know about it. I've also been playing phone tag with the head of customer service at the company that makes Terradent. When I finally have a chance to talk to him, I plan to recommend that they recall this product and redesign it so that there's no chance that anything can get underneath the head to contaminate the bristles.Interestingly, I saw the Terradent toothbrush this morning at my neighborhood market (which focuses on healthy and sustainable products), and I talked to one of the salespeople in their health and cosmetics department about the mold problem. She had had exactly the same experience with the Terradent!! So these may not be unusual incidents. I'll be interested to hear what the customer service guy says.Thank you, Topazgirl, for the recommendation for the Radius Source toothbrush! I have it on order. And I repeat your warning: don't buy the Terradent!

Best toothbrush I've ever owned
I bought the 3-pack of replacement heads with the toothbrush after my dentist told me I was wearing down my gums with my current toothbrush. I immediately noticed a difference while brushing (it feels softer than my drugstore toothbrush, it is much easier to clean behind teeth) and afterward (my teeth feel cleaner, especially the backs). When I changed the head, I saw no gunk or goo beneath the head as another reviewer mentioned. The compartment was completely dry and clean, and the new head snapped in tight. Recommended. Update: A year and a half later, it's still working great. New heads snap in tight, and there's never any gunk or goo behind them.Update: I've changed the brush head on my Terradent more than a dozen times now, and it has always been clean and dry underneath the head. It still snaps in tight and keeps a good seal after two years.
