Bitter taste, unresolved issues
Berky review 2 stars:First off, I just want to say that I LOVE Berky water filters! Several of my friends have them and the water tastes like it is straight out of heaven! I have been looking forward to getting one of my own for quite some time now. However, my experience with my Berky has been less than desirable. I received my Berky in two days. Shipping was prompt and the box that I received look nice, with no signs of abuse. Once I started unboxing my Berky and filters I noticed some problems. The main body of my Berky had a large dent in it, which I was shocked by, given that the box looked so nice. Also, one of my black carbon filters came with a large chunk missing from the top of it. We decided to call the company at this point and waited on the phone for an hour to speak with someone. The lady on the other line swiftly told us that the crack in the carbon filter would not be an issue. She then told us that she could not help us with the dent in the main body and that we needed to contact the Amazon seller regarding that issue.At that point, my husband and I decided to start using the Berky and contact the seller hoping for some kind of discount on our dented Berky. I had heard of other friends who had intentionally purchased a dented Berky and got a sizable discount because of it.We set up our Berkey by priming all the filters as directed on the instructions, being careful to follow every step as it was listed. When we started getting water from the Berkey I immediately noticed that the water did not taste right. In the filtered water tank there was a white film that had been collecting on top of the water and we even saw a white sediment collecting at the bottom of the Berky. So we cleaned out the unit and primed each water filter a second time and also re-primed the black carbon filters just in case we had done something wrong the first time. After doing this the taste of the water got a little better but there was still a white film collecting on the top of the water. So we emptied the tank again and cleaned and scrubbed it with mild soap. Since then we have repeated this process two or three additional times. In the mean time we have gotten some good tasting water out of our Berky, but the water quality has been quite inconsistent. This last time the water tasted really great and we were extremely happy with it until I tried to get water from the Berky when it was almost empty. The water tasted extremely bitter and when I opened it to look inside, the white film was back.In conclusion, I’m extremely disappointed with my Berkey up to this point. It has not lived up to the great reputation I know it to have. I will be contacting the seller as soon as possible to try and reach some resolve about these issues.

Awesome "Batch" system to turn almost any water drinkable!
Wow...Awesome filtration unit! Go with the 4 element filters and it produces 2.5 gallons of remarkably pure drinking water about every 30 mins. With the space of the 4 filter elements in the top tank and the empty holding tank on the bottom, the top tank will have to be filled in 2 intervals to fill bottom tank completely bacuse the elements take up space. Typically fill to 1.5 to 2 gal. first, burying the element ends under the watern Then gradually feed the other half to 3/4 slowly keeping the element ends under water as it filters. Have used daily for 6 months and still going strong for well water. The top tank wont filter the last 1 inch of water from top tank and should be emptied when finished because the filters have a plastic band around the ends of the elements that prevent the water from going through the filtration area at the tank bottom. The element are cyndrilical that have plastic threaded tubes at the end. These tubes go through simple holes in the bottom of the upper tank with rubber washers. On the bottom of the upper tank, these threaded tubes are fastened with a plastic wing nut but dont overtighten or they will strip! Water then drips from the threaded tube ends into the lower tank, but at a much faster rate if you keep the top tank full! The fridge pack is handy in this kit but can be bought in and in other sizes for about $7-$9 from the big box store so not much added value.

Read all the directions first.
Our town water plant is in need of major repairs and they have been adding excessive chemicals to it to keep it clean. Rather than buy bottled water, we decided to buy a Berkey instead. Set up is easy. It takes a little while but it's not hard at all. Just be sure to read the instructions completely through first. I almost made a mistake by running the red dye test with the fluoride filter on. Luckily I double checked and saw that you are supposed to run it before you install the fluoride filter or it can void the warranty on the filter. All in all we are very happy with it!

This review is for the Big Berkey water filter system which I use and like very much... The picture that appears when I write this review is of another product and also the categories for rating (flavour? Thickness? Of what? The water? I guess it is an Amazon's glitch)

water, clean pure water
I always enjoy something that has been designed to the max and has specifications that are far above normal production. Kinda like the military. This is not a Pur you fill and pop in the fridge. This is a home water treatment center. two things you NEED... Water and air,,,,A Berkey water filter and a Hunter air scrubber. then start worrying about organic/natural/non gmo etc. My new place is now complete. Oh...the Berkey Man who sells this is aces also

Can't go wrong with a Berkey!!!
This is my second Berkey. I purchased the first one 17 years ago and it still works just fine, but I moved, and wanted a smaller one for the new kitchen.I totally trust the Berkey filter systems and it sure saves me a lot of water buying and lugging!!!

Makes tap water taste better than bottled water
All I can say is WOW !!! Makes tap water taste better than bottled water. Not sure why people say its slow at filtering water, I followed the directions and videos, and works great. I can fill it up and it filters the water in just a little over 30 minutes with 2 black, and 2 floride filters.

Toss the Britta, this is what you need.
I have two cats with kidney disease and health issues of my own. Unadulterated water is vital to our (improved) health and vitality. I'm happy with the functioning of this system and it provides more than enough water for me, my 2 fur babies, and friends.
