These are just fun. As far as pens go, they can hold their own against any other low end ball point. They write smoothly. The barrel is fairly thick. I am not sure if you can tell that from the photo. I don't mind a thick barreled pen but you should keep it in mind if thick is not to your liking. The pens are also durable.Now I am sure what you really want to know is how these function as photo displays.... They're great, actually. Make sure you print your photo the correct size and you should have no trouble inserting it into its pen frame. The size of the photo it holds is 2.5"x1.75" There is a quick 5 step process for getting the photo into the pen. Truly fairly effortless. I've had a photo in one of the pens now for about 2 years and it still looks great. AND, the pen still writes.I couldn't decide between 4 and 5 stars. 5 would have been pretty generous. Even though I think they are good pens and I get a kick out of the photo feature, I am not certain they are a 5 star VALUE. When I write my reviews I always take value into consideration.BOTTOM LINE: Highly recommended. Good pen and it is fun to be able to put your own photos in. AND they look good when they are in the pen. I question the price point just a wee bit.

The quality of the pens were great. However, after using them for awhile the point retracted on its own and was difficult to write with.

I agree with the other reviewer: this is a great gift item! I believe in practical, personal gifts and this fits the bill perfectly.The barrell is quite thick, though, and may be uncomfortable for someone with very small hands; I wear a medium to large glove and this is heading towards too large (especially if I'm PMS-swollen). Because of it's size, it won't fit in your purse's/bag's pen slot.Takes a Parker-style refill, so the writing quality is top-notch. It's plastic is thick, and all mechanisms seem very sturdy. Seems like this pen will last for quite some time (not like those cheapy advertising pens), and the photo can be easily changed. My only gripe so far is that the clip tends to get stuck on my scrub top pocket and purse pocket when I try to take the pen out. The clip is removable, though.My hard-to-buy-for parents and husband ALL LOVE having photos of the kids nearby all the time.

I originally bought one of these pens from the photo center of a walgreens about 3-4 years ago. I ordered these back in June for my mother's b-day and for fathers day. Great to have if your like me and can't keep up with the pen. It was a little tricky to get the picture in if you are using regular photo paper. It took me a couple times to find the setting on my photo printer to print it to the size it requires. I did have to do a little extra trimming to the picture. It fits in snug so it wont move around. I like that it is a larger pen. The ink flows fabulously. I will be ordering more as my original ran out of ink, and the rest of my family wants one! Great gift idea!

shirt clip gets in the way of your hand when writing but it comes off easily and works fine without it.

My daughters school pictures had an option of having her picture in one of these pens for $10 each! Now that I bought the pix pens from amazon I can print any picture and put it in myself with the very handy stencil to make sure they are trimmed right! I've had a lot of people ask where I got them! They also write very well in black ink! This made a great Father's Day gift too! Possibilities are endless!

Pens are kind of big, but a great gift for a child loving parent, easy to use template for picture size
