Pay attention to which manufacturer build you're buying.
I bought this for toying around with in my network lab because I was intrigued. However, I am having trouble with getting this to operate properly, more specifically pertaining to a project I had in mind for this. I think I may have bought the wrong build, as I've noticed there are several manufacturers making these. So pay attention to what you're buying, also make sure to have a look over the code (if you have a project planned) and make sure it's going to compile and work for what you're doing before hand. Besides that, it's so inexpensive I'm going to just keep it and try some other project for it. To the stock of circuits and boards it goes to for now though.

I spent about a week trying to program the first unit I received before coming to the conclusion that the unit was bad. The second unit programmed instantly.When you program it, you're actually flashing the flash/ROM and not the RAM. So the program stays after you power cycle the unit.To program it either follow the instructions using the arduino IDE or PlatformIO. There are many tutorials out there and anyone should work. This is the ESP-12E. If you can't get it to program, then your unit may be bad.

I love this little thing.
There's so much functionality in this little device. I don't know how they do it for so cheap. If you're here then you probably already know what this thing is about. Buy it, it's totally worth it.

Internet of many things
With a bit of searching I was able to find several good tutorials and example code to get this running on Arduino IDE. Product was packaged only OK, but worked and had no bent pins, so I guess it didn’t need to be babied.

Not perfect, which is perfect for projects.
I've been using this for wifi projects and generally pranking my friends. Pretty cool for anyone interested in programming projects.
