Appalachian Trail Guide to New York-New Jersey Paperback – August 4, 2010

I just completed from Dunnfield parking lot at Delaware Water Gap to Rt 17A in Warwick NY, almost 77 miles. This book and map was extremely helpful in keeping me oriented along the trail. It helped me anticipate how far the shelters were and of possible water areas. On the other side of the coin, some of the descriptions could have been better, lots of times we passed points that could have fit the description only to see another spot further on that also matched and so we weren't always sure of our progress. Overall though I would not do the trail without it.

I have taken on a personal project of section hiking the Appalachian Trail and ordered this set as a resource. It is extremely informative and shows everything that I need to do these hikes. The maps and book are sturdy and hold up well in a pack. I especially like the elevation profile on the maps, which is helpful in planning. I also like that it shows other local trails, so that I can sometimes work in a loop hike instead of an out and back. I do wish that the print on the map was a little bolder, since it sometimes tough to see with the colored background.

My ex and I planned a trip on the AT across NJ. With this map we were able to mark out our daily section with the section markers already on the map. There markings for springs and other sources of water among many other markings. The book was very helpful with help packing. Excellent buy.

Great little book, and I mean little, it's smaller than your average book, great for throwing in your pack. I only wish it did the trail northbound instead of southbound. Little gripe but otherwise nice book.

Wow, this book is fantastic. The author went above and beyond in his research, doing exceptional due diligence to make sure all of information about the trail is as accurate as possible. The book made it nearly impossible to get lost or confused, especially in combination with a GPS to monitor mileage. The book also makes it easy whether you're a northbound or southbound hiker. I also loved that the book came with two very detailed, waterproof topo maps!

Helpful & detail.

These maps are accurate & definitely waterproof. Book gives you the necessary info you need to plan your trip accurately. Traveled the AT last summer for 4 days & relied on the book and maps a great deal. Would definitely be a must buy for AT travel in New York and New Jersey.

Arrived on time and was as expected. Not sure why the book is laid out north to south when the majority of thru hikers hike from GA to ME.

Very informative and comes with the map. I also like the small format of the book.
