Be a better friend - and buy this for your friends!
I loved the idea of this book before I even picked it up and it did not disappoint. What a joyful, sensible, clear and encouraging read of how important friendships are and how Jesus, among the many other things he did on earth, modelled how best to go about it. It is a treasure trove but so accessible. You'll be nodding, laughing, having the occasional sharp intake of breath - and then doing what I did, recommending it to all your own friends. Not in an accusing way, but in a 'look what a great thing we have so why not make it better' kind of way! Thanks so much Phil.

Great read
What a great and interesting read. Love the way Phil has divided the subject into sections to easily manage and get in that head. Anyone researching friendships or just wanting to have a read about a new topic grab this book! You won’t be disappointed.

Great reflection on an important subject
This is a worthwhile read from Phil Knox in which he combines relevant research on friendship with reflections on the life of Jesus. It's well-written in a very accessible style, helped by various personal anecdotes along the way.Perhaps some thoughts on the issue of work relationships (to what extent can they spill into personal friendships) would have added, though readers will find there is already plenty to be getting on with.

We are struggling with friendship and Phil tells us why it matters and what to do about it.
Phil has written a really helpful and accessible book about a hugely important topic - friendship. He highlights the research showing that we are more divided along lines of wealth, politics, age, race and worldview than ever before. One of the reasons is that friendships between people who are different are rare. He explores the atomic power of friendship, but also how it is a battleground - especially for men who have fewer close friends. Phil is passionate in pointing to Jesus as the best of friends and is our example to follow. I highly recommend this book - it is both timely and timeless.

Full of heart and wisdom, with such practical guidance
What a brilliant book about such a neglected topic. It's so accessible and full of heart, with many stories showing the author clearly loves and lives what he's preaching ... and yet dive into the end-notes and it's well-researched and solid to the core. Really clever integration of Robin Dunbar's groundbreaking work on the cognitive capacity for friendship/relationships with theological reflection on how Jesus - 'the best friend' - actually structured his life and walked with people. And it all lands, clearly, poetically, poignantly, in ways that make a difference in your everyday life. I was literally stopped in my tracks with a smile across my face as I was encouraged to work through the various circles of friendship, and mentor/apprentice relationships, to realise how fortunate I am in this stage of life to have precious friends with whom to share the highs and lows. So, brilliant book, totally worth the time and cost to pick up and read.- Dr Dave Benson (Director of Culture and Discipleship, at the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity)

Excellent read
Loved this book so much that I didn’t put it down for three days. Friendship is a very under appreciated aspect of our daily walk and I for one got tons out of this book.I love Phil’s way of communicating. How he uses stories mixed in with truths and studies makes what he is trying to say really understandable and easy to relate to.
