Testing these color packets for use with shou sugi ban -- Japanese burned cedar boards
I've been studying how to color boards for use with shou sugi ban, the striking Japanese technique of burning boards (often cedar) to get an interesting, very grainy pattern after the charred parts are brushed off and the surface sanded. A variation involves dying the wood (instead of just finishing it, or staining it and then adding a topcoat0 to really dazzle. Many crafters are using alternatives to stain, such as wood and even fabric dyes, which bought me to this pretty kit of mica powders.I am trying these first on two homemade vanities in the rustic style. The woods involved are pine supports and cedar shelves. I've begun by taking scraps and mixing the mica powder cautiously in a mixture of mineral spirits and linseed oil, in a ratio of about 6:1. I then sprinkled in the mica powder a bit at a time until, when brushed on the wood, the tone would suddenly appear when it was no longer too diluted. The results are very interesting -- I used a packet of a reddish purple for the experiment, and the wood is bright and eye-catching.The 30 colors in this kit look like they in some cases provide subtle variations on a certain shade, such as yellow, so I may be able to do one board a lighter tone and grade into darker tones. From what I understand of mica powder, it is a vivid saturated product that goes a long way.The real test came today -- I have two color areas in my cabin build, which are copper/gold and green/black. Looks like there are some excellent representations of copper, gold and varied greens and teals, so I'll be trying to get a final color on the vanity next.I mixed the mineral spirits and linseed oil in about a 2:1 ratio, and noted that the linseed oil adds a lot of amber tone to the ultimate color. On my vanity that I used with a copper mica pigment, the results are subtle and beautiful, with just a hint of copper if you look closely. The second vanity I mixed with a light green powder, and it seemed to just sit on top of wooden shelf. I think I will proceed by treating the dark areas of the wood with linseed oil and mineral spirits, and run the color mix where there is light wood between the darker green. It's a continuing experiment.Review of SAPBOND Mica Powder for Epoxy Resin , 30 Colors Mica Pigments , 10.5 oz(300g) Set Mica Glitter Powder for Soap Making, Candle Making Art Crafts, Resin Dye(10g/Bag)

Blends easy and results in beautiful colors!
These mica powder pigments can be used for various craft projects, but I use them strictly for epoxy resin coloring. There are 30 different colors, which makes this set a fantastic value. I highly recommend them.

Great Colors, Variety, and Quality
Resin Mica Powder, Sapbond (30 Colors)I've been working with resin for a year now, and am always looking to try new brands of resins and micas. I received this particular brand and was immediately struck by how vibrant the colors are; the samples I've made so far are gorgeous and all cured swiftly, with no bubbles or warping of the mold. I can strongly recommend this beautiful brand as worth adding to your collection. My only complaint is that I wish the color names were a little more descriptive, like "teal" instead of "blue green". But that's just a personal choice. The colors in this kit include:Wine RedRose RedWatermelonLight RedPinkPeachOrangeYellowFlow GoldenMagic YellowGreenGrass GreenGolden ChestnutGreen BlueBlackish GreenBlueWathetDark BluePurplePurplish RedVioletLilacWhiteBlackCoffeeRed BrownGoldenIridescent GoldSilver GrayBronzeVerdict: I'm very happy with this mica powder and would buy this brand in the future.NOTE: This review is based on a free advance review product provided through Amazon Vine.~ Ana Mardollfsf

Great Mica Powders
Beautiful colors and mixes with both paint and resin perfectly. I do wish it came in plastic bottles over the plastic baggies but the colors are still fab and they mix beautifully.
