Great Recovery Collar.
I just recieved this collar and put it on my cat. He is NOT happy with it, but it's perfect for my needs. Some information on sizing from the included insert:SMALL is for neck measuring 8 to 12 inchesMEDIUM is 12 to 15 inches.LARGE is 15 to 18 inchesX-LARGE is 23 inchesXX-LARGE is coming soon.My rather large older cat is doing fine with a SMALL.The material is both soft and strong, much like the material you see in outdoors equipment. The ribs are sturdy and keep it in place and the velcro is quality and fastens strongly. This is a high quality recovery collar, and worth every penny. I was very impressed by it, since I've tried to use the cheaper varieties with little luck.My only complaint was uncertainty on sizing when I ordered, and I hope this review will help you with that. The makers do tell you that, if not sure, order one size up to be safe.Incidently the included collar is heavy nylon with strong velcro fasteners and good quality D rings. The protective outer collar is also rather large (long) so it really protects the face as well as making licking the body hard to impossible.I'm very impressed by this purchase!David Lowe

Smart & Comfortable Alternative Cone
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I am very pleased with my purchase of the Contech Procone. It worked great for my dog after her surgery. She had it on continuously for two weeks after she was spayed. The pliability of the material allowed her to snuggle up with us, rest her head, and access her food and water dishes without ever being able to access her stitches. She didn't like the contraption, but was as content as a post-operative dog with itchy stitches and a giant cone around her head could be. This was more affordable than the plastic shame cone offered at my Vet's office and I'm super pleased with its efficacy. In response to another review, I did not notice any particular odor or smell. The cone is washable and we have continued to use it after our dog has healed from surgery to assist us in grooming her nails and brushing her teeth more easily, making it an even more valuable investment.Highly Recommended!

A great recovery collar that's significantly better than a standard plastic cone
This is a nice product that fills a need I didn't even know about. If you get a pet, chances are at some point your pet will get at least one surgery. We've all seen (and used) the giant, hard plastic cones that the vet's office provides afterwards. They are unwieldy, uncomfortable, and hurt the pet any time they bump into something. This soft recovery collar improves on all of those issues. It has weight to it, but no so much that a pet cannot easily lift its head, it is softer and more flexible so as to provide a greater range of movement, and it has some give to it so when a pet bumps into something it won't hurt as much. This cone, while flexible, will still retain its shape fairly well--my dog was never able to get at her stitches after surgery despite all her maneuvering to do so. The velcro used to open and close the cone is also a nice feature; easy for a human to open or close, but stays firmly in place when a pet tries. The velcro also keeps the cone at the size you want, so it won't get tighter or looser on a pet's neck. The only slight downside is that this cone gets real dirty, real fast. A cheap plastic cone can be cleaned much easier and faster. This cone got every sneeze, drool, food particle, and drip of water on it, and it showed. You can wipe it reasonably clean by hand, but the stains themselves are likely to remain without more vigorous cleaning. This wasn't a deal-breaker, just something to be aware of.Overall I was very happy with this cone and after my dog recovered from surgery I saved this cone against future need. It's a good product to have.

well made but my dog hated it
My dog actually hated this MORE than the clear plastic one from the vet's office. I think he didn't like the tunnel vision -- the clear plastic one allowed him some peripheral vision. We put it on him and he basically stood in the same position, with his head down, for about 25 minutes. I removed it and he was fine again. We tried again the next day, ramping up to it with treats and clicker training, but he still hated it. My dog is a bit of a "special snowflake" but I can understand that it's even weirder not to be able to see normally. We went back to the plastic cone of shame and he was fine. There are some DIY options out there too, which involve a towel rolled up around the dog's neck, which would work fine if your dog is a bit bigger. Poor puppy :-(

nice collar
I have an Xolo, and he has skin allergies, and licks at times until his feet and forearms bleed. This worked perfect for him, size small, and is very tolerant of it to my surprise. Going to use it until he can keep his lotion or medications on and not lick them off. Perhaps with some conditional training, when he sees the collar come out, he will quit his bad habit. This collar is made really well, easy to put on, and still allows him to eat and drink and does not slide around on him. He hasn't tried to lick since he has been wearing it, and only a few times scratched to try and take it off. A good collar that will outlast him!

Great for my pooch
I have a rat terrier that has flea allergies. She killed a baby possum and then got infested with fleas. She started chewing the heck out of herself so I had to get out the cone of shame. The crappy plastic ones are too long and she kept on bumping into things. I decided that if she has to wear one that it might as well to be better that the plastic cone of shame. It fits just fine and I also like that you can fold a part of it down her to be able to eat and drink. Also because that is soft she can comfortably lay down. It does keep her from chewing on herself and I am very happy that I got it even though she may not be. LOL

NOT GOOD FOR CATS
I bought this based off of other reviews saying it was good for cats, but unfortunately its not. My large 15 lb cat had surgery a few days ago and has to wear a cone for 2-3 weeks. He hates the plasic one the vet gave us, so I have to use a halter to keep it in place and hoped something like this would be more comfortable for him.Unfortunately, this seems much better suited for a dog. It is much heaver and longer than the vet gave us (over 2 inches longer from collar to end) and it is too floppy. My poor cat refused to walk in it, since he couldn't see past the thick fabric and he had no hope of eating or drinking in it. He had to bob his head in order to see in front of him and he tolerated it even less than the plastic one. He isn't a small cat (he was skinny at 13 lbs) but this wasn't meant for cats at all. I don't even think it would work for a maine coon. For a small-medium dog this would be perfect. It does seem waterproof and soft, and they would have a larger head to fill the space. It does seem durable. Unfortunately, its not a good fit for my pet so I have no use for it. D:

He was 12 pounds and was much happier with the soft cone than the plastic one he ...
My cat had surgery on his belly after eating something he shouldn't have, and he had to wear a cone of shame for two weeks while the wound healed. He was 12 pounds and was much happier with the soft cone than the plastic one he got from the vet. Yes, he was pathetic looking with it on and it took him a while to get used to it, but at least he wasn't jarring into walls and corners all the time. It was easy to adjust the velcro tabs; we kept the one side folded down the whole time he wore it and that helped a lot with his visibility and access to food and water. It did get quite dirty at the end of the first week (spilled water, litter mess etc) but I was able to clean it easily with a damp cloth, and now we have it on hand if we need it again. Would definitely recommend for a cat.

We love this cone
Our Italian Greyhound had to wear a cone for over 2 weeks. This cone was perfect for her. It allowed her to sleep comfortably and manoeuvre around the house easily. The only negative was the strap that holds it on, it was too wide for her neck and the buckles were heavy but we just took the strap off and used a shoelace to tie it up. Overall fabulous product!

Didn't suit my needs
Would have been better if it were lighter and smaller. It was just too big and heavy for my cat but itd be great for a small dog with a stronger neck.
