Worth the price and effort, if you're willing to deal with the mess
Earlier today, I just finished using up my bottle of this shave oil; I purchased it about 3 years ago, to give you an idea of how long it lasts. Granted, I only shave about twice a week, and doing some rough math I'd say it takes up to about 0.5 mL to prep your face so you can use that to calculate how long a bottle will last you, as well as how much it costs (maybe 5 cents per shave, which isn't too bad.)The shave oil does appear to help lubricate the skin and yield a better, less-irritating shave, so it was definitely a net positive experience while I was using it, especially for the price. That being said, I won't be re-ordering it or any similar shave oil. The main problem is that the oil gunks up the razor and causes hair to stick in it. Even using a double-edge safety razor with a single blade, it's impossible to get it clean without disassembling the head and wiping everything (I used a soaped-up shave brush to carefully clean off the blades between uses, although you're not even supposed to do this.) I'd imagine using a cartridge razor would be an even worse experience; I used to use Gillette's products, and I hated the Schick Quattro even before starting to use shave oil because it was impossible to clean those cartridges between uses, so I wouldn't recommend bothering to use an oil with cartridges, especially if you expect several shaves out of each one.So with that being said, is it worth using a shave oil? Probably, if you use a single-blade razor and don't mind having to clean up messy oil after every shave. Personally though, I'll go without it from now on and deal with having drier, slightly more irritated skin after a shave.

which I Love, but it still felt like something was missing
I've been using a straight razor for about a year now. I've tried many soaps and creams. I'm currently using Dreadnought shave cream, which I Love, but it still felt like something was missing. I've never been into preshave products, they never seemed to work well for me. I figured since I liked Dreadnought shave cream I'd try their preshave oil. All I can say is WOW!!! I got the best shave experience I ever had. My straight razor would glide across my face. I got an even closer and a more comfortable shave. You don't need to use much, a little goes a long way. Give it a try I hope you like it as much as I do.

I don't know how or why I ever tried shaving without a preoil.
I selected this particular brand 'cause I liked the logo. In retrospect, I should have been terrified of the image of a Spartan, and probably selected something gentler. But I am a man, and it appealed to my masculinity, and I'm glad it did. This stuff is awesome. I don't know if anything else works better, or if there is a different experience to be gained by trying a different brand, but I bought the huge bottle 'cause it was a good deal, and it did not disappoint. It did arrive after the rest of my order, still very timely, just not as fast, and resulted in a little bit of razor burn drama the first time I tried my new DE. But I'm glad it did, cause the next time I shaved and used this stuff, I had a basis for comparison. I have decided that it's incredible.

One of the best values in Pre-Shave oils
Great value on a pre-shave oil. I started making pre-shave oils, and spent lots of time mixing my own--but this is comfortable to use and really a great value at the size of the product for the price. I can't make pre-shave oil for this price. I took off one star as this is slightly thicker than what I would make myself.

Does what it should
I feel this gives me a layer of protection for my double edge, seals in water, and holds the scent of my soap or cream a little longer then if don't choose to use it. Ive heard that corn huskers will do the same, but will not smell as good. Has a light scent that covers up the oil smell a bit, but like i said it holds the smell of lather as well. For the amount you get for the price, id say its the best deal for your buck.

Best Preshave Oil With the Best Value
This is my new favorite preshave oil. I've tried a lot of different preshave oils, and while some are comparable in quality, they cost significantly more and come in smaller amounts. This preshave oil is just the right thickness (many preshave oils are too thick and gunk up my razor and are tougher to clean out of the sink), and you get a good amount of it so you can use it liberally. This is the only preshave oil I'll be buying in the future.

Smoother shaves, and smells good!
A good product and attractively priced. I have no real criticism of this, but no glowing praise either. It did make my shaves smoother. For that alone, it's worth the price. But I did not notice a particularly closer shave. But the added smoothness is nice, and a soft, not overpowering masculine scent make this worthy of the price charged.

good pre-shave oil!
Works great. Every shave has been smooth using only a dime size amount of oil. Great smell and a great value. I believe you get the most bang for your buck as you get over 4 oz instead of only one for the same price as other pre-shave oils.
