UPDATE - Increasing my rating as seller is replacing incorrect small cage supplied. Much appreciated as it was after return date due to an emergency on my end.Believe unit with cage lid within jar lid [included picture] is best option. Definitely easier to agitate & move kefir out of cage especially with whole milk fortified with powdered whole milk. MUCH easier to pour fresh milk through to flush thick kefir/curd build up out of when starting new batch which can't be easily done with the straw system. Should basically never have to wash grains or open container until grain growth forces it.Believe lid within lid version can be ordered with different size lids for jars you prefer and likely grid sizes.Note that whole milk fortified with dried whole milk gives an exceptionally thick kefir which FORCES removal of small cage to flush out thick kefir/curds - with larger cage not much of an issue.Grid openings were too large for starting "my" new fresh milk baby kefir grains without losing a few into kefir. Different grains, milk or water, will have different sizes and I believe different grids are offeredMature grains use is good. Sieved first several batches to save my baby grains which went through grid openings[largest grid opening offered]. This was with whole fat cows milk and initial slow ferments. Minimal, to no loss after, so stopped sieving. Recommend getting the biggest cage you can as grain growth will quickly fill up smaller cages. Also lots of grains give you the ability to shorten ferment times from 24 - 48 hours to around 8 or so - very handy.

kefir grains basket
This product makes fermenting kefir at home so easy. Just put the grains in the basket and drop it into a jar of milk. I like the larger grain basket because it fits in the half gallon size jar. I am able to make 7 cups of kefir at a time, eliminating the need to make it every day. Now I have a large jar of fresh milk kefir in the fridge ready to go for the week.Cleaning is easy if you use a soft brush and whisk it around inside the basket. Rinse dry and have it ready for next time.I would recommend this product. Or the smaller one if you needed to make smaller batches of kefir

Poor instructions.
No instructions. No explanation for red straw with cap on it. Not even on their website.

It works and us convenient
This basket makes its a lot easier to transfer finished kefir and immediately start a new jar of milk with out mess or lots of time. Just make sure you rinse and clean basket like once a week. Pour out grains, clean then put back in.

Easy
I am new to making Keifer and wanted something easy and less messy than straining. This is perfect. It is simple and fits on my existing jars. It’s easy to clean and transfer to a new jar. I have made several batches and so far so good. Would definitely recommend.
