I'm going to hang these on hooks in my kitchen to dry 5x5 dishcloths, will that work?

Yes they should work for hanging dish clothes. They have a firm grip! I used them to hang wet clothes and towels while camping. They come in handy for a lot of things!

They are very sturdy and should be able to hang a wet towel. If it's really heavy, you could use 3, one on each end and one in the middle.
