My original Toto valve assembly started hissing on my 8 year old toilet. The valve had gone bad and wouldn't shut off. It was kind of hard to hear but fortunately the overflow tube did its job nicely and kept the bathroom floor dry. Upon opening up the tank, I was surprised that it wasn't a "normal" floating ball type of valve. No idea on how these "new fangled" ones worked. After watching some YouTube videos and doing some research, I purchased this universal replacement valve and embarked on a new adventure. The instructions were fairly clear and were designed to work on all Toto toilets. I found my model and carefully followed the sizing instructions.Removing the old one was a bit difficult as the retaining nut seemed to not undo by hand after the initial loosening. It got stuck on its way down the plastic water entry tube. I debated just cutting the old one off but instead persisted. Turns out whomever installed the toilet originally used plumbers putty or tape to seal the water input tube to the valve base. The instructions on the new valve explicitly stated not to do that. It would seal correctly on its own. After the old valve was removed, I installed my new one with ease. Connected it to the toilet and tightening correctly. I hooked up the overflow hose, cutting it by about an inch as it was a universal piece and it fit better for my model - as the instructions said was fine to do. I set the refill setting to match my model and connected the water hose. It filled up the tank but the top of the valve was only about half way up the overflow tube. It just didn't look right plus the water line was only half way up the overflow tube. The instructions on the toilet itself said the water level needed to be 1-2 inches below the top of the overflow tube. The water level was about 4 inches below the top.Oh well, the new valve didn't hiss, and I felt like I succeeded. While looking at my work and gloating, I heard a slight hiss after 10 minutes or so. I was crushed. I flushed the toilet and tried again. It started hissing after around 10 minutes and intermittently stopping then starting up again. Some of you plumber types out there can probably guess why this was, but I figured I needed to resize the valve tube to be a bit higher. I did and tried again. This time the hissing never stopped...duh It was higher than the overflow tube. ... it was mocking me now as if to say "you're no plumber"...Well after the 3rd sizing try, I got it to where the top of the old valve was all looked good. Hooking everything up again and turning on the water and yep... 15 minutes in this time and the hissing started again. I gave up and turned off the water. After a few hours I noticed the water level in the tank was near the bottom. A dim lightbulb illuminated in my head and my attention turned to the flap.Who would have guessed it, both the original valve and flap were not working correctly. Testing my theory, I wedged the flap down and turned on the water again. No hissing, and it held until I flushed a day later. Yea! So I ordered a new Toto replacement flap ... and that is also reviewed - nothing is ever easy (see review) and I've got a new found respect for plumbers.Overall I like this valve. It's a bit of a learning curve if you've never worked with this style. Beware of the recommended settings as you may need to modify them for optimal operation and do the next person who may replace the valve a favor: Don't use plumbers putty or tape.

Perfect fit for my Toto -- very adjustable!
THis is I guess a universal replacement for Toto toilets. The valve/spout mechanism can easily be adjusted up & down to fit. The directions don't tell you about how to lock the height, but you'll figure it out...

It worked!!
We have a Toto toilet and the valve needed to be replaced - I bought this thinking it may not work and the cost $25 was a little high BUT EVERYTHING IS and I begrudgingly bought it and pleased because - it’s great! Did the job and flushes are now thorough and don’t take 20 years to fill the tank! I recommend

Excellent fill valve
We have four Toto Drake toilets and I replaced all four fill valves with these. They were fairly easy to replace and I didn't have any problems. This fill valve is quieter than the original and I'm happy with the results.

This is model 528 fill valve with an added water refill adjuster - see troubleshooing tips
This is a genuine Toto fill value stamped with "ANTI SIPHON 528" which is pretty much an exact part replacement for the fill value that originally came with my Toto toilet. What looks different from the kit from my original is that the water tube is clear (instead of black), comes with a black mounting nut (instead of hex white nut), and the water tube port has an added refill adjuster dial part that allows you to adjust the water flow rate. The refill adjuster part is what allows this fill value to be marketed as universal, since most fill valves are adjustable in height. I've tried setting my refill ratio to 3 as stated on the chart for my model, but what I've noticed is that it simply reduced the water flow rate, so I've opened the dial fully to maximize the water flow just as in my original 528 for my toilet.I ended up getting the refill valve after a series of toilet malfunctions which started with water constantly running at the top of the fill value. If this is your problem, first try replacing the valve cap with diaphragm (part THU123). This is the most common point of failure for Toto fill valves. I've tried the inexpensive Korky R528 Replacement Cap Assembly part and it fit perfectly on my Toto fill valve assembly. I found a youtube video on Toto maintenance, and also cleaned the fill valve float ball along with other internal parts. After that problem was fixed, I then noticed that the flush flapper started not sitting tight after some flushes. The rubber looked like it was warped and disintegrating, sticky and gummy to the touch. I replaced it with Korky 2021BP G-Max Flapper For TOTO Toilet Repairs and that worked perfectly as well to stop another water leak issue.I thought my problems were over, but then the toilet tank started leaking on the outside, which damaged the floor board next to the toilet! I tried replacing the red rubber 'shank gasket' that sits at the bottom of the fill valve and also replaced the black rubber tank bolt washers that also looked like they were melting away. I was able to find the parts at local HD -- Fluidmaster 250 toilet fill valve installation parts along with standard toilet bolt washers.Even with these replacements, the toilet tank was still leaking slowly, so I called the Toto manufacturer and the CSR asked me if I had ever used chlorine tablets for the toilet tank. Apparently, whenever Toto had ever dealt with these toilet rubber parts failures, these tank cleaning tablets have been involved. I had not used them, but I know the previous home owners did for my recently purchased house. So, please STAY CLEAR OF EVER USING TANK CLEANING TABLETS and you will avoid premature death of all the internal toilet rubber mechanisms. If you must, you can use the tablets that mount at the toilet bowl level, or simply perform old-fashioned and most effective manual scrubbing.I noticed that the tank slowly leaked around the top of the mounting nut only when the water was turned on. The tank didn't leak even with the tank full of water when the water supply (pressure) was shut off so I suspected the fill valve casing integrity problem instead of any rubber gaskets. I did make sure that my leak wasn't coming from the water supply line connection right below the mounting nut, but this can be another source of water leak that you may want to verify. I ended up purchasing the Toto fill valve after all the sticky rubber parts got replaced one by one (which I don't regret, and I did save the Korky R528 for future), and I was simply tired of fooling around with my toilet problems. Part of the issue may have been the hex plastic mounting nut which looked a bit warped, so I happily used the black mounting nut that came with the kit instead. This did finally resolve all of my toilet issues, and I hope you benefit from my unfortunate Toto toilet troubleshooting adventures.

Works great. Installation directions took time to comprehend.
Overall, the replacement valve works great. The installation instructions are written to cover varies toilet models, as such, one needs to read very carefully to ensure which step to follow etc. . Once understood the install went well.
