great new hero detective!
Characters are well developed and the plot riveting. Best news - it’s the first in a series. Looking forwarding to downloading book 2.

Intense
Fast moving, police determination. At times you must stop to understand Scottish slang, but that helps makes the story interesting. Solid and well well written.

Wonderful book!
I literally wanted to read the whole thing in one sitting. But I decided to read it in two days instead. Kept me focused and the pages flew by. Great read!

If it was not so slow for 2/3rds of the story it would have been a 4 at least.
The writing is top notch, I was very comfortable with all aspects. The characters were well developed for all those involved, keeping you on top of all goings on. It is just that the goings on did not make the story catchy enough until I was well into the story. If the killer had been a part of the story without identifying him/her earlier based his/her's history, more suspense could have been created. I shouldn't be telling such an excellent writer how to write, my apologies, just my thoughts.

Good Read
This was quite an interesting book. Some of the Scottish slang took a while to understand, but did not take away from the story.

murder
This is well written and a book you have to finish. The characters are all great and you are not sure of the person that ends up the bad guy until the end

Dark is the Grave
Very well written suspense! Duncan Bone was a flawed hero with many layers and you can’t help pulling for him. I suspected at least four different people as the killer. The story flows well and the pacing was good. Great read!🤩✨🙌

Brilliant
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are likeable and the plot kept me on my toes. I didn’t guess who the perpetrator was. Looking forward to starting book 2

Boring… plot… characters
I like a good cop shop story - especially when it comes as a series of books - just grab the next instalment when you need an easy read. This is a basic set up - boss cop, here DCI Bone (traumatised) and a loyal sidekick (here DI Walker - lesbian) - a team around them to solve crimes - apart from it (in any type of these storylines) being totally amazing what horrendous crimes are committed in these rural areas. But that‘s what you buy and know will happen. So what‘s wrong with this one?A) the characters: I don‘t need to like them - a bad person can be as engaging as a good one… here, neither DCI Bone nor DI Walker stir the slightest interest in me - and the villain? I nearly missed them. The team? Just totally uninterestingB) edge-of-the-seat? : okay - first instalment, you need to introduce the characters and the rough outline of the story has potential. Unfortunately the writer fails to follow up on the promising start… it drags, drags, drags - and then Wham! Solution… ahem… rightC) language - please: foul language at every corner doesn‘t make a good book - especially when uncalled for as often as it‘s used here. I don‘t mind them cussing ever so often - but it‘s the only thing that actually registered for meSo overall - skip it - there are much better easy reading cop shop stories out there. So why two stars? It’s Scotland 😉
