I like the book
I like the book, but I would have given it 3 1/2 stars if I could. There are a few patterns I would like to try, especially the twine basket. She gives great instructions on how to make "rag" yarn. She also gives suggestions on what else you could try with each pattern. My only complaint was the photos. It almost looked like someone was taking art photography lessons. Several patterns only showed part of the piece, and some of them had blurred edges and wonky perspectives. I like to see a clear picture of the complete piece.

Get your hook on!
Good book-- not only for beginners or teens, but those that are adventurous with materials other than yarn. The author has various bag projects that could easily be made with twine (think beach bags!). There is a lot of room for creativity I think, whether it be with pattern stitches or embellishments. Wished she had included some hat patterns. Plenty of how-tos included. I am going to pick up her sister book, "Fast Knits Fat Needles," next. Please note that this review is based on my perusing the just received purchase, I haven't done any projects--yet. Hopefully will be back to showcase a project.Amazon please fix the preview for these two selections. You are unable to see any projects and are doing a disservice to the author, as well as potential customers.

Crocheted rag rug, here l come!
WOW! Really impressed with the book. Easy to follow with lots of illustrations. I have crocheted years ago but couldn't read a pattern. Just did the stitches my aunt showed me. I started classes a few weeks ago for basics and being able to KNOW what the stitches were. This is going to be a great book for beginners and the projects don't look like beginners when finished. The book also arrived 10 days before the promised date.

A good book for your crochet collection
When it comes to crochet, I am all about instant gratification, so I was really anticipating the release of this book. It arrived yesterday, and it's not bad at all. I do wish there were more "full view" photos of the completed projects - a lot of them are very "arty" shots, extreme closeups, weird angles, etc., that only show a bit of the actual piece. Sally Harding uses non-yarn materials for some of the projects, like string, twine, fabric strips, etc., that readers will find very interesting to experiment with, and she does inspire creativity with materials. There is also a very good explanation of the basic crochet stitches and techniques for those just starting out. I like working with thick and textured yarns and I look forward to giving some of the afghans in this book a try (when the weather gets cooler). Quick Crochet is not exactly what I expected but I do think it has at least a couple of projects for anyone, and it is a good addition to my crochet book collection.

Cool book
This is a very cool book. I purchased this book because of the part of the title "quick crochet." I love to crochet, but I get intimidated by those big projects like afghans or throws, so I thought this book just might be able to teach me a few tricks to make bigger projects less intimidating. It did! The use of material instead of yarn is very cool and also makes for a very unique end product. I would prefer a larger variety of projects in the book, but I think that it gives enough insight to the art of "rag crochet" that you can run with it and make whatever you set your mind to!

Large Hook Quick Crochet
Sally Harding has a great book for Huge Hooks. Sally has taken large hook crocheting and provided some great patterns. She uses clear and concise instructions for the patterns and this is a great book for all who love crochet.

Good book
I bought this book because I love to crochet, but sometimes I just want to make something quick. Big hooks can do that, but there aren't many patterns made for them. This book has some good patterns. I recommend it.

Superb crochet book with a new take on the craft
I was a little dubious about this book given the review of the previous reviewer - after all, why drop a star? But I took the chance and I am so glad I did.The skill level of this book is largely aimed at a beginner, so anyone can pick it up and start crocheting, but the patterns and ideas can trigger an experienced crocheter into projects they would never previously have thought of, and for this it is worth its weight in gold! This neat little book introduces a new way to crochet. Out with the silly lacy doilies, out with the baby bootees and matinee coats and in with things that are pretty, practical and very quick to make.Throws, baskets, bags, rugs, they are all there, and you are slowly introduced to using new items to crochet with - the rag rugs in particular make use of old clothing or fabrics that would normally be thrown out. A faded duvet cover of mine became a chair seat cover in no time at all.The one thing it teaches you is how to work with things other than shop-bought wool, and the experienced crocheter will soon be able to adapt all the patterns and techniques to expand their repertoire and make newer, bigger items, and at very little cost.Yes, you can buy fabric jelly-rolls to make designer items, but this can work out very very expensive. Look to your old sheets, blankets and old clothing and you soon see how you can turn them into something else, something useful and something that recycles and reclaims. In this day and age of thrift and make -do the Quick crochet book shows you how you can enjoy your hobby and save a fortune. For this, I would highly reccomend it and am happy to give it the five stars it deserves.

Nice book
Some good ideas and projects here, although the photographs of the items aren't always as clear as they might be. I enjoy using large hooks and thick yarn, and I am looking forward to completing some of these projects. Most are suitable for beginners or advanced beginners, with a little patience, but most are also interesting enough for more advanced crocheters (although some may find them too simple). The designs are mostly for bags, rugs and cushions, as you might expect given the large hooks and thick yarns, but there are a couple of easy scarf patterns as well.Delivery was fast. My only quibble is that the book was described as being in good used condition, but unfortunately something sticky had made its way onto the top and bottom of a large number of the pages. This made it difficult to open them, and even being very careful it was impossible to avoid some slight damage to some of the pages when I unstuck them.

Brilliant Crochet Book!
Wow! Absolutely brilliant book with lots of excellent pattern projects to do. This book has lot of great photographs of the projects themselves and has well written patterns which I have made already. Thank you for a marvelous book and all crochet people in the world you should try this book, you will not be disappointed.

Great for beginners
I would recommend this for adventurous beginners who would like to try something different. The patterns for homeware, accessories and bags are easy and the wool/fibre used gives the projects a retro look.

Highly recommending this unique crochet book
Very pleased. Great, easy patterns. Made the round rug, and was also able to adapt the basic patterns to create other items, using cotton, acrylic or other materials. Fabulous book.
