An Excellent Artist Tool
For creatives, there are so many uses for a light box: animation, comics, tattoo tracing, quilting, photography, etc. Recently, I had a chance to review a light box offered by Huion: their A2 Light Pad.On opening the box, you get the light pad, power adapter, instruction manual, and also a nice little clip to hold paper to the pad.The Huion A2 Light Pad is beautifully designed. Made with acrylic panels and LED lighting, illumination is bright and even. The working surface is smooth and there are numbered scales on two sides for aligning what you're working on.With a large 12.6 x 20.5 inch work surface, the Huion A2 Light Pad is the largest model Huion offers. Thin in construction and weighing just over 6 pounds, you can easily carry it wherever you need it.The lighting on this unit, however, is the really incredible part. Once you plug in the power adapter, you see the red glow indicating power to the unit. And simply touching the power button, the pad instantly illuminates. Holding your finger on the button, you get a gradual increase in light intensity (and it really does this gradually, not in steps). Likewise, touching and holding again lowers it gradually.According to Huion, the LED lamps can last up to 50,000 hours. The surface is comfortable to work on, and even with a few hours use at a time, I found it emits very little heat.As I mentioned previously, there are many uses for a light box. For myself, I've had a great love for stop motion animation and it wasn't long ago I found sand on a light box creates some really unique looks and possibilities for animation. So, I played a bit with sand using the light pad and found it worked fantastic. However, used for this purpose, I would recommend placing something like a clear cover sheet or glass on top of the unit first, as sand could scratch the acrylic surface.Whatever the use, I think this is an excellent product. It's light enough to carry wherever you need it, with even, controllable lighting, and is comfortable in use.

Best light board
I have a couple Huion products and they are definitely worth the money. I love this board size for doing diamond art. It is perfect size and fits on top of a folding table easily. For bigger projects I just move the canvas around on the board to work an area. The lights are adjustable and the board itself is thin. I do recommend keeping the box to store in when not in use as it has protective padding from shipping. If you are needing a light board this should be the one you get. They do come in various sizes. This was the A2, and anything bigger for me would have been more difficult to handle and maneuver.

Amazing
What a wonderful light board! It is well designed and goes QUITE bright. It is really thin and really bright. What sold me was the thinness AND the fact that the light level is adjustable. It also has a handy scale up two sides. I took these photos in my silly bright kitchen. I imagine in my darkened studio, the results would be even MORE pronounced.I have no problem seeing pencil, pen, sharpie or photos through 140# watercolor paper, and pen, ink, and sharpie through 300# watercolor paper. Photos are not viewable through 300# paper.I was SHOCKED, however, at how poorly it was packaged. The box from amazon had NO padding or packing paper in it and was quite a bit longer and wider then the Huion box, by more that 12 inches each way, and about two inches too wide, WHICH MEANS the Huion box with a fragile lightbox in it, slid around banged around and slid more. It was also NOT SEALED, but taped with two SHORT pieces of clear tape across the long end, like you would just quick tape it to close the box to keep in the basement, you could reach your whole arm in the untaped box. Think, I MUST SHIP THIS and close this box today, but all I have left is 12 inches of tape, OH WELL it'll hold, right?! LOL.... It was NOT taped shut for security that's for sure. The Huion box wasn't sealed either. It was dented and damaged, in fact, I'm NOT sure I didn't get someone else's RETURN! The cord wasn't factory wrapped tight or looped, but rather messy. The box was obviously previously opened, and there was no instructions or packing in the Huion box. The more I'm think about it.....I'm almost dead certain I was sent a return while paying full price for new. Humpf. Well, it LOOKS ok, and works..so....................anyway....
