Does this fridge constantly run or only when needed?

It will run constantly; you can adjust the thermostat's button, and it will not consume the power when it reaches the range of refrigeration.

Do you just plug it in? Is it possible to control the temperature in 12v mode?

The refrigerator come with 110v plug and 12v cigarette lighter cord. Just plug it in would be fine. and our product has been upgraded to be able to adjust the temperature whether it is 110v or 12v.

What device can power it?

The operating voltage of the refrigerator is 12V, you can power it with battery/solar panels as long as it reaches the voltage supply of 12V （not 24v）
