Best set I've ever built, by far
I'll start off by saying this: If you're a fan of building LEGO sets, buy this set while it's still available. It's well-worth the prices I'm seeing on Amazon right now. It's retiring soon, will disappear into the ether, and will re-emerge with horribly inflated prices. That said, building this set was so much fun. The end product is beautiful. It's sleek, it's big, and it'll definitely be a show-piece in any room you put it. In comparison to other sets I've built, it's not easy. It's a very intricate build, and instructions must be followed very closely. If a single piece is placed incorrectly, there's a high probability that you'll have to disassemble a significant chunk to correct your error. While building, I would closely inspect my work every few pages. The innards of the rocket are tightly knit and closely aligned, and they must be absolutely correct for the exterior pieces to fit properly. Don't hesitate to double or triple check your work as you progress.I built the set over the course of a week...basically 2 bags per day. There are 12 bags total, each with a similar number of pieces. In total, I spent about 4 hours building/inspecting. It's a really well-thought out build...different than any other I've experienced. Piecing it together, it seems flimsy as you start each section. Eventually sections fully come together using interesting techniques, and wind up being extremely solid. The end result winds up being a very, very solid rocket. This set is great in every way. If you're an adult fan of LEGO, you'll love it. If you're a parent whose child likes LEGO, this would be a great set to build with kids. It would expose them to techniques and designs that are likely not found in many other sets.

This is the coolest object I own
This is the best Lego set of all time. It is absolutely ginormous, and it really lives up to the real Saturn V (which is, I think, the most remarkable thing ever built by humankind). I adore the tiny lunar module with the mini-minifigure astronauts. The rocket is designed to be displayed horizontally on stands, but I actually found it is surprising stable when vertical. I still feel that I would need to fashion some kind of base to stand it up on, otherwise I would constantly be paranoid of it tipping, so for now I have it displayed horizontally. But, when standing up, this thing will absolutely tower over any other Lego set. It's something that needs to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. It's been discontinued for several years now, so availability is low and the price has inflated, but to me it was still 100% worth it. If you like space and rockets, and you have the chance to pick up this bad boy - pull the trigger. Do not even hesitate.Oh, and it has 1969 pieces! I mean - how freakin cool is that!!

The quality control was excellent. Not a single piece was missing
This was my first LEGO product since I played with them 50 years ago when you just built stuff from scratch with blocks. This is an A+ LEGO for space nuts. This product is not for the casual builder- it has almost 2000 pieces (actually 1969 pieces, year of the first moon landing, no coincidence I presume). It took 3 or 4 very dedicated hours to build. I was very impressed with several features:1. The quality control was excellent. Not a single piece was missing. A few extras were present and disconcerting... did I forget to put this one in??2. The instructions and illustrations were EXTREMELY clear. Didn't keep me from goofing 2 or 3 times, but my bad, not the instructions problem. LEGO could be the poster child for clear instructions. Are you listening IKEA?3. Although the interior of the model has some seemingly unnecessary Rube Goldberg assemblies, it ends up being a very solid model. No parts falling off and everything fit together well. The overall design is extremely clever.4. The pieces come in 12 separate bags so one can assemble in a staged manner, and no need to sort through all 2000 pieces at once. Each stage can be completed in 15-20 minutes.5. The finished product looks like a real model and not too LEGOish.6. I had a really fun time putting it together, even at age 60.A few critiques: The paint pattern is not authentic manned Saturn V. The SII / SIVB interstage paint is inaccurate. However, it is closer to the real deal than Ron Howard's Saturn V in the Apollo 13 movie. The product is recommended for ages 14+ but I think the precocious 10 yo LEGO builders with some patience could do this one. Definitely not a good model for the impatient or impulsive child (or adult).5 STARS

A GREAT Lego Set!
This an absolutely GREAT lego set! The most common Lego themes in our household is STAR WARS and Nijago. It was refreshing to stumble on this set that is as American as apple pie. It is an almost 2000 piece set and is a challenging build. It's not too difficult except for the angle of some photos in the instructions that present an unclear location for some of the sections that attach to the outside of some of the stages. If purchased at average retail pricing it's a great price for such a large set. The set measures about 39" in length. It can be stood up in launch mode or displayed on its side in stands that are part of the build. If displaying it upright be cautious where it is displayed so it does not get knocked over. The stands are very simply built stands nothing fancy and three separate sections. That's just a little disappointing since it would have been nice to have a little more elaborate display with signage as with some UCS or other higher level models. Other than that there are no complaints with this set. The instruction booklet includes history and information about the spacecraft and defines the various stages of the rocket. The Lego set is capable of breaking down and displaying each of these stages. It also serves as a great visual learning tool to show the various stages of launch, moon landing and return. I highly recommend picking up this set while it is still available and at retail price.

I received the NEWER (92176) model, not the OLDER (21309) model
It's a really nice model. It's sturdy enough and it's got a bit of weight to it. It was not frustrating to build at all. The three stages of the rocket can be separated into their own pieces, which is interesting. Some of the rocket's thrusters in Stage 2 were loose and would not stay on if the rocket was held upright, but this model is slightly too fragile for me to want to play with too much considering how many tiny pieces it includes, so it didn't really bother me. I'm not sure if this was done on purpose, but the huge thing for me was that I received the newer updated (92176) LEGO model instead of the advertised (21309) model. The difference between the two models is that they replaced one of the bricks on which the Lunar Lander rests with a Technic brick. The Technic holes make the Lunar Lander a bit more stable to mount, because otherwise it would just rest wherever you place it and not actually be secured in place. It's just that one brick that resulted in an entirely new model. I had no missing pieces (I actually had quite a bit of extras) and the box was as good as you would expect after being shipped and handled. Looks amazing (not really LEGO-y at all) and is bigger than I expected. Highly recommend.

Excellent quality and realism
Item arrived earlier than estimate, in a protective packaging. Usual LEGO quality, sturdy plastic, easy to assemble if you pay attention to the clear instructions. Couple of assembly mistakes were easy to identify and correct shortly afterwards. The item was as promised, the detailed anniversary version and worth every penny of it. If it hadn't been discontinued, I would strongly recommend it. I spent two enjoyable days building it and I hope many more watching it and explain to children in the family how it worked.
