Shooter: Season One [DVD]

Can’t wait

If the purpose of a review is to help another person decide if a particular show is worth their time then lets start down that road.First after watching a few episodes I decided to watch the 2007 film with Mark Wahlberg since other reviewers kept bringing it up. After seeing 6 episodes, I think this series is better. First, Wahlberg did not have a family and the interaction with his buddy's ex-wife in the movie was more than a little strange. The actress who plays Phillippe's wife in the series, Shantel VanSanten, is extremely convincing as the dedicated, girl-next-door type. If I were wrongly accused of killing someone, I would definitely want her on my side. The plot has enough twists and turns to keep it interesting, the violence is not overly graphic and the language is not offensive. So if you like action-adventure with a fair amount of redemption and the righting of wrongs, you should enjoy Shooter. Each episode has been better than the one before and I am looking forward to the next.

I saw the movie with Mark Wahlberg and it is got the same title and some of the same premise as the TV show, but they are two completely different plots. Trying to compare the movie and the series is like trying to get an apple to taste like an orange. In reality the movie is a lot closer to how many snipers are when they retire, alone, high ground, a good dog and away from people. The TV series is somewhat fantasy on that part because of the # of kills this sniper has and it not affect him, well he be either or both a socio/psychopath. The series is good entertainment and I do enjoy it but it's NOT the movie and I believe it wasn't meant to be hence the family as well as many friends. They need that aspect in order to make it more than a one season show.

They had to TV'ize it to stretch it into a season and add some intrigue and suspense but all in all it's really good. It's close enough to the books to not piss off too many fans but just crosses the line with a few casting choices. I absolutely love his family but his best friend in the book (and movie) Nick Memphis is a disgraced FBI sniper, but in this series because we've crafted this world of politically correctness they made Nick a black woman? Why didn't they just make her disabled and a lesbian and hit it out of the park!Well it still worked for me, I hope they got enough interest to make another season.

Liked the 1st Season of this show but just havn’t been able to get into the 2nd one as of yet. It had a lot of good interactions to follow with normal people as he tried to clear himself.

I read all the Bobby Lee Swagger books and shooter was as exciting as reading the book. Ryan Philippe plays as good of an action character as Jason Bourne or Jack Bauer. If there is a season 2, I am all in!The only thing that was not realist was Bob Lee calling the FBI agent and his wife on their personal cell phones. Characters like Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer used disposable burner phones. Bob Lee called on a burner phone. His wife should have used one too to make it realistic. That is the only bad thing I can I can think of.

I read Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter, which the story is based on. Obviously, the war that Bob Lee fought in had to be more contemporary, but the central story line still runs through it. I am enjoying the series and look forward to each new episode. I could have waited and binge watched it, but now that I started it, I can't stop and wait for all the episodes to air. Excellent cast and story. I usually don't like it when there are too many changes, like Bob Lee's wife and daughter added to the story, but it works well in this case. Thumbs up!!

This was one of the very best DVDs I ever had - great acting with lots of action and adventure. I always couldn’t wait to get onto the next episode.I am trying to find season two DVD but right now Amazon doesn’t have it yet.

I found the series very interesting. The series opening encapsulated the major subplots and characters of the movie. From that point on, each episode followed the original premise and pursuit of the nefarious characters introduced. Good writing, characterization, plots and settings all blended well and were quality strong throughout the remaining episodes.

Just can’t get enough of Bob Lee Swagger, he’s got grit, determination and he cares. Wish they would put S3 on dvd too. I really liked the movie, but I like the series so much better.

Exciting and excellent series. Well acted and full of surprises. I highly recommend it.
