Pepper and Jake love herding sheep in the little valley where they live. But there's a problemโ a big problem. Urk, a giant who lives on a nearby mountain, is big and stinky and doesn't care that dumping dirty laundry water in the nearby stream causes a flood down below every single week. So Pepper and Jake hike to Urk's mountaintop lair to confront him. But there's no reasoning with a giant, especially one who gives cryptic puzzles to solve. If the kids can solve it, Urk will move away. If not, Pepper and Jake (and their sheep) will be the featured ingredients in Urk's next bowl of smelly soup! Review: Great book, wonderful story! - My son got this book for Christmas and read it last night. He is in 2nd grade and struggles a little with reading. He is getting better though. This book was great for him. It combined difficult and easy words throughout the story and built up his confidence with the variety of words. The proper names can be tough some times because they use weird names. But I'm not going to take any stars off for that. Review: Great book - Granddaughter loved this book. Nice to see the different levels.

I love these series
I love these series. But most important that my son does. I got 40+ books and he loves to read them (usually it is not that easy to make him read). I got mix of 2-3-4 levels for the second grader, second level is too easy, but it creates some fun and he reads them with pleasure. Love it, I would recommend it.

~~ Can the children outsmart the giant? ~~
Meet Pepper and Jake, young shepherds who live in the valley. Who and what is the problem? Irk, the giant, lives up on top of a mountain. When it is wash day Irk empties his washtub down the mountain which results in a flood for poor Pepper, Jake and their sheep. Enough is enough! Time to go speak with Irk. Irk makes a deal with the children. If they can solve the riddle in three days he will move away. If they can't he'll eat them! Will the children succeed in solving the riddle? How about your children? Although this is a fun story, the ending is a little abrupt/strange making me feel as if there should be another page. Well written though and delightfully illustrated. Opening in landscape mode this book is readable on a Kindle Paperwhite HOWEVER it would be much better on a larger screen or in the actual paperback. I purchased this book at full price. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

Six year old loves it
My son has been resistant to reading because he says it is boring. This book is a game-changer for him! he loves the story and enjoys reading it. He really gets into the adventure the children in the story go on. It's a fun tale and it's written in a way a beginner can understand. We love this book!

Great choice!
I bought granddaughter several books for her birthday (age 4). Some of them are simpler and are ones I thought would be a good start for her 'Ready to Read' or "I can Read" phases, but instead of picking up one of the simpler books, she looked through them until she found the one she wanted: "Stinky Giant". There is something about 'stinky' that makes a 4 year old laugh. She concentrated so intently that I knew it was money well spent - invest in the future. e
